Power Cords - what's your favorite?

I've been running these Wireworld Aurora 7 power cables for some time now, probably going on 10 or more years. They have served me well. Maybe one day I'll upgrade them to the Electra model at some point, but I'm in no rush.

My plan is to replace my Furman with an Everest. At that point I will upgrade the Venom X PCs plus a couple other brands I am using on the other units. Most likely my choices will be either Alpha or Sigma. I have been assembling my Main system over the past couple years, researching as I go. This forum has definitely been a great resource. Even with all that, I have been through several brands of cable. I want to lock in on one PC brand for sure.

My DIY PCs using Prof/Dr OHNO single crystal teflon covered #13 wire.
4 wires twisted to Star Quad configuration.

2 - #13 AWG positive and 2 - #13 AWG for common each equal #10 AWG wire.
A single #11 run the length as a ground.
All wires wrapped with heavy cotton tape.
Copper sleeve functioning as a shield over the tape wrap.
Heat shrink tubing the length of the wire.
Furutech Gold plated cord caps.

It is a challenge to be sure both pairs of wires are twisted opposite each other the entire length.

Very happy with their performance.

Sounds like a good one!

Well, for some years i use Nordost in all system. The first time i went to Nordost was wen change the amplification game and went from Mono blocks from Krell to Devialet in ~2014 and a Metronome T5 CD transporter and from Martin Logan to the Wilson Sophia 3. I bought Nordost Heimdall2, from digital, speaker and power cables. I use at the time the Qbase4. the sound was very very good, lot of detail, speed and large soundstage.

Latter i upgrade the power amp for the mono 440 Pro Ci and i bought the another Heimdall2 power cord and change the Qbase4 to the 8 mK2. I then up-grade the speakers to the Wilson sasha2.
With the speakers up-grade i felt the need to up-grade the speaker cables and went to the TYR2 and i found a bigger diference than when change from the Stereo to the mono Devialet.

Latter in a visit to my dealer i bring the power cable TYR2 to try connect from the wall to the Qbase8 replacing the Heimdall2. After some days burn in, wow! Big diference in sound, everything get better, bass, clarity, speed, soundstageÂ… and i only change one power cable.

2022 i have a good deal and replace the speakers for the Wilson Alexia2, big big step in sound but i then saw the amp was not to the level, Devialet simply let back the amps and now they have their attention to the Phantom and specially Dacs the tech moves fast.

This year i change the Mono 440 Pro Ci from Devialet for the darTZell 8550MK2 and the dac Bartók Apex and oh my God! This was an up-grade a big one and the amp surprise me a lot, i let playing for almost 3 weeks non stop when in Hollidays and when came back it was playing in another level but more he play more improve the sound, i think this amp needs like 900 hours to burn in and its one of the best amps i ever heard and i already listen to many things costing 4 times de price, i really think this is a complete bargain!

But, the cables where the same and i ask my dealer a Valhalla 2 power cord to connect from the wall to the Q8 and a Tyr2 to the Dac, the other i had went to the amp. He didnÂ’t have the Valhalla2 but had a brand new Odin and made me a good price, i was skeptical because though the V2 will perform better, he said no and changing messages with Nordost they told me the same.

After 2 weeks playing non stop the sound improvement is so good that is hard to believe i only change 2 power cords… More silence, detail, bass, everything better in a way that I don’t believe that a up-grade of the dac to the Vivaldi would do a better change. I’m like “wow” and the cables are still in burn in, Nordost says that the Top of the line power cords they should bur in almost at least 400 hours.

I already call my dealer, if he can get me 2 more Odin to connect the amp and Dac ill do the up-grade, if he canÂ’t get me i want 2 Valhalla2. Ill then change the Q8 for the new 3 generation and will invest in grounding the system, i already saw the impact of energy in sound.

Next steps its going to change the TYR2 XLR that connect the dac to the amp for the Odin2 and then change the TYR2 speaker cables to also the Odin2. After that ill go to change the Bartók for the Vivaldi with the Vivaldi upsampler (donÂ’t buy the clock because donÂ’t have where to place) and i think ill stop, at least is the plan 🤣

So, to resume, the power cables where to the date the up-grades i did that i had more sound quality increase, I truly believe that until the system have a good cables system we are not listen to the full potential of the components.

When it comes to speaker cables, interconnects and such, audiophiles are pretty opinionated. Ask an audiophile about their favorite power cord and you tend to get a glazed look. Over the years, I've found most audiophiles use a real hodgepodge of power cables. Rarely do I see stock cords in friends systems, but I can't say never. I see some of this and some of that....but there doesn't seem to be a definitive leader.

I use Ansuz D power cords on my preamp and amps. I use Shunyata Alpha Analog on my phonostage. I use Shunyata Alpha Digital on my Lumin.

I've heard good things about Kubala-Sosna, Nordost, Stealth, etc.

What do you use? What has made the biggest difference in your system?

Hello, Mike and good morning to you. I have been through a plethora of PC's and none of them offered me that "Wow!". They seemed to be just different flavors of PC's. Some were better than others, some were simply horrible. I happened to stumble upon a company called Snake River Audio, out of Riggins Idaho, earlier this year. Long story short, when I hooked up their Signature Series Hybrid PC to my Lumin UX1? I was shocked at the catapult in sound that I was now experiencing. Also, at the sound that I was not hearing (black background, very quiet).

This PC was the first time that I had ever considered a PC an actual component within a system, instead of something that offered a different flavor. I have since gotten more PC's from them and with each addition, the overall sound gets more and more enjoyable. These are not subtle improvements in my rig.

I would say that the biggest difference was.....well, it's kind of a tie here. A 3 way tie. I have experienced the same catapult with my Canary Pre, the Lumin and with an "Amp Series" PC going into my MF KW-750 amplifier. Each addition was just as profound as the others and when you add in some IC's from Snake River Audio, the tone and tonal balance of the system (along with so many other attributes) are to die for. Especially that tone.

I don't think that there will ever be a clear "best", due to system synergy but for me and the end result as to what hits my ears? I would definitely put this company on your list of PC's to try out. They have been at it for 15 years and in general, one can tell how something sounds by looking at how many of their products are available on the used market. You will not find many Snake River Audio cables on the used marketplace, and for good reason. FWIW.

I read positive reviews of Dynamic Design AV Heritage GS and Titania GS PC and ICS; has any one used these cables?

10 years after the start of this thread I can confirm that Ansuz (C) is still very good and synergistic with their power distributors (I bought a very pricey D-TC)which had an amazing effect on the sound quality . As these cables cost a small fortune (even second hand) it is wise to use them from the wall to the distributor. As if you have new speakers.
