Power Cords - what's your favorite?

I am surprised at the pairing of the Nad 33 and the Avant-garde speakers in Hear Here’s system.
I have heard Avant-garde speakers several times, and have owned a Purifi Eigentakt amplifier.
It’s just a combination I would not have imagined to work well. But glad it works for you.
I have found that different pieces of equipment respond differently to power cables. I have had some pieces of gear that there has been little difference With others the difference is overwhelmingly clear.
If Belden or Supra or whatever, works for you that’s great.
I have numerous power cables to swap in and out. While audibly I could not identify the exact cable being used, I could identify the “camp” that the signature of the cable is in.
This is truly an interesting and fun hobby.

I agree, it's fun... And the most effect I had with Supra Lorad Silver on my preamp/DAC.

And btw both Supra Silver and Audioquest nrg looks very nice and solid made... Quality wise...

Shunyata isn't the most expensive either? That depends on the gear it's connected to. . When I checked the prices varied from 500$ ish for their entry-level and 1000-2000$ and above for the more expensive cables .

Well, it surprised me too. I'd been using tube SET amps with my Avantgarde Unos for 15 years or so, but a rave review of the Benchmark AHB2 amp from a Trio owner on another forum prompted me to buy this amp new and unheard - and at the time un-reviewed. Big mistake! It was drearily dull with my AGs, but I decided to move from tubes to SS, so I bought (mostly used) or borrowed a dozen amps of various flavours after building a short-list prompted by recommendations, reviews, etc. Amps were from Accuphase, Sugden, Benchmark, GamuT, Micromega, Bakoon, Valvet, Mark Levinson, Lyngdorf, Quad and NAD.

I was expecting a low-powered Class A amp to best suit my speakers and indeed the Accuphase A-36 was a great amp. However the best of the bunch overall sound-wise were the GamuT D200 Mk III and the NAD M32. With the M33 coming out, it was an obvious upgrade.

Although I certainly could squeeze more from my speakers, it would set me back at least 3 to 4 times the cost of the NAD, or probably more if I went for separate streamer, DAC, RC and amp - plus all those costly cables! Despite the unlikely match, I find this amp works extremely well with the speakers, which have since been upgraded to Duo XDs via earlier Duos. For my total outlay, I am very pleased that most has gone into these exceptional speakers rather than ones costing half as much with much more costly electronics. Peter

I've got an Casio and Orient watch, but would never say to Rolex and Omega owners... All you need is Orient.

I think you've hit the nail on the head.

If you want to tell the time accurately, the Casio (or at least a Seiko) is every bit as good as an Omega or Rolex. If you want accurate power for your amp, the Belden cable is every bit as good as the Shunyata. On the other hand, if you value the "jewellery" value of a Rolex or Omega, you are happy to spend many times as much as the simple time-keeper. With cables, this argument (for me anyway) falls flat because there's no "pride of ownership" in a length of untidy cable that you do your best to hide behind the equipment rack - however much you paid for it!

Well watches is tricky, A Casio Solar with Gps for time and zone is more presice than all watches.

But on analogue automatic watches Rolex and Omega is certified with guarantee more accurate than Orient and Seikos... But you got Grand Seiko also.....

Cables and power cords is system dependent... And It's silly for me to buy a expensive Shunyata for my setup, it would be better to upgrade my system... So for me it's better with Audioquest Nrg and Supra.

But in your setup I would at least try to put more in power cords, if it's money back guarantee 30 days I don't see the problem.

And you don't need to break the bank....

Exactly.
When someone better explains why, maybe then a lot of the noise around the cables ends.

I have a friend with a system that was about 2,5 the cost of mine.
Recently, trying to improve the sound, I went to his house and took ALL my cables.
There was a difference but it was very small. He himself recognizes that he hears a lot more differences in my house.

This is absolutely true and led me to reinforce something I have already said here: I trust a system that shows differences much more because it has a much higher potential for improvement. A system that does not emphasize differences in cables (or other accessories) plays what it plays and nothing else.

Supra LoRad MD08 EU/SP arrived.

From totall mess to more order than the Empire of Star wars.. 😊

I have power cords from Cardas, Bottlehead, Tara, LAT, Vansevers and AudioQuest. If you can't hear a difference in power cords, it's time to start buying Bose.

Thanks for the advice, I'll start searching Audiogon later tonite for a mint pair of 901's !! :yahoo1:

I was thinking more along the lines of a Bose Wave Radio. The 901's would elevate you too high on the audiophile pecking order...lol.

Good point, God forbid, next thing you know I'll be buying some of those 'Magic Dot/Disc' things that some audio fools buy into.......... :exciting:

Doh there is tons of YouTube videos that proofs it's big difference in power cables, Amir and Gene must have their head stuck up in... Or something.

I’ve been using Straight Wire for a little while now. I had the full AQ loom but tried the SW and it was a clear upgrade. It’s funny, they both have the same name. I went from Thunder to Thunder. Hearing is believing for sure. So Thunder on pre, amp, DAC, and DDC. I still use an AQ Thunder going into my Nagra power conditioner. I have tried silver conductor cables on my system and it always pushes my system to the brighter end of the spectrum. The AQ does look about ten times cooler, though. Don’t get me started on watches.

LOL, only a true audio fool would waste over an hour watching that drivel .......

It's clear that you do not hear a difference in power cables from your post.
And that's fine.
However, why do you find it necessary to attempt to belittle those that do?

jade, sorry, not my intent. Obviously got a little carried away with the 'back and forth'. With regards to your comment about 'not hearing a difference' I know full well that wire can be manipulated and made to sound different but I also fully understand that solid fundamental principals of science and engineering need not cost what a car did 30-40 years ago !

As for my using the term 'audio fool' I did so in a broad scope generalized manner and I stand by it, having been in this hobby for over a half century I've observed plenty !

no, that's ok, I prefer to listen to music rather than wire ! :yahoo1:

It's your loss, except for the few bucks you save for the entry level Supra or Audioquest NRG. Maybe you rather drink 6 beer or a burger? That's the difference in money here in Sweden.
