Nord One Up Ncore NC500 amps, Class D ready for prime time .....

Indeed! They are certainly not working with that rug, that's for sure

And for the Stereo's!

Hi Colin,

The new case looks great, can't wait to get my hands on one!

I guess there's quite a bit more mass in it? Does that result in significantly cooler running temperature?

The Stereo case has just under a third more volume, though no top vents, the important part is the modules mounted on the base are at the extremities of the case close to the side heat sinks. keeping the source of heat away from each other. In this application it was unnecessary to thermally link these which would of added to the build time and cost. They still produce 36W at idle and very little more on full volume. We had to endure some hot days around 30 degrees or 86 in the workshop while testing and monitoring temperatures. The heat sinks did not get close to max temperature, and the external surface of the case saw similar temperature to the present case.

Its undecided yet if we offer the new multi channel amps in the SE case due to price point but they would have to have a thermal link between base and the side heat sinks and be used as the case was intended. Each one of the heat sink fins have micro fins to increase thermal efficiency.

Do you have a demo amp to try, I'm interested in the stereo power amp primarily.

Thanks,

Mike.

The new cases look really good Colin. I know it has been a little hectic but it will all be worthwhile. True.

As you know I have been trying to get a pre-amp with equivalent SQ and at a decent price. I have found it. No big surprise as many already use it and it is well featured. I will be issuing my review in a few days and hopefully people find it helpful. There are one or two pre-amps that did not work as well and I mention them as well. Have a great break (that is a holiday Colin) and ENJOY yourself and relax.

I am driving King Electrostatic speakers, which have by report nominal impedance of 6 ohms and minimum impedance 1.8 ohm at 20 kHz with great results.

Thanks for posting George and a great review again. We have point quiet a few customers in Hattor's direction with our mono blocks now 280mm would seem to make a very good pairing shame he wont talk any more about supplying us Pre's

Anyone driving 2 ohm speakers?

I am driving King Electrostatic speakers, which have by report nominal impedance of 6 ohms and minimum impedance 1.8 ohm at 20 kHz with great results.

Considering these Nord amps are rated down to 2 ohms, a 2 ohm speaker shouldn't be a problem. Heck, my old Wyred 4 Sound ST-250 is only rated to 4 ohms (with a minimum load of 3 ohms), yet it coasts through the 1.5 ohm dips (@ 20 kHz) of my 4 ohm Martin Logan SL3's with ease. Never a single issue and always running cool. And did I mention that it's old?

I wouldn't worry one bit about running 2 ohm speakers with these beautiful Nord amps. I'll probably upgrade to a Nord amp in the somewhat near future.

Can play 2 ohm and a 2 ohm rating are two different animals and since most esl's are lowZ above 15K there is not much drive requirement as most music content at that frequency is not very demanding ..

Low z from 200-10K will tax the hell out of most amps ....

Well, there's nothing but a lot of useless speculation going on here since shadowlight hasn't mentioned what speakers he's driving or would be driving that are 2 ohms. He has a pair of Zu Audio Druid V's which certainly are not 2 ohms, and not hard to drive either. In fact, they are 16 ohm with a minimum of 10 ohms.

Curgently own Druids but thinking about changing and want to make sure that the amps can handle 2ohm speakers in case I pick one that goes down that low. I prefer not to change amps.

According to the Hypex website, all of the Ncore amp modules are fully rated for 2 ohm loads. Not sure Bruno would put it on the website in multiple places if he had not tested it at that load. Another amp in the same price range that will handle those types of loads without question is the Odyssey Kismet. I own the Nord and the Kismet so have heard both with various speakers.
