There is no solid state gear that can touch good tube gear for musicality ....

How true! My current journey is quite foreign (and not overly fun). Maybe I should revisit VAC, VTL. :)

Once you have your main room finished (ha finished!) you can ponder the possibilities of turning your family room into a tube haven. A nice REF75 would be okay to have around little ones don't you think? No exposed tubes...

You are absolutely right Paul. You have that covered quite well! Don't want to get off track, but how are the Harbeth's treating you?

Doug, I would love to hear your Devore speakers one day. Somehow I don't think we have any dealer in Toronto.:(

My Harbeth ? hmmm...I think this is better way to describe it.

VA Klimt Music speakers is like a Solid State and the Harbeth M40.1 is like a Tube . :D

I understand that perfectly!

Looks like there are only two Canadian Devore dealers. One in BC and one in Montreal.
You can come to my place for a visit, I'm closer than Montreal! :)

I have heard the all-TAD Ref system in japan...stunning clarity and resolution. I bet I prefer the above combination better. There was something missing about the TAD system...piano was clear but not quite right. Gould Goldberg Variations (1983), the middle of the keyboard felt lite compared to how a piano keyboard sounds when you sit right up near it and hear it strike. I studied for 12 years and know the sound reasonably well, though am no expert. The upper treble strikes were alright, but I did not get the sense of the board of the piano and the construction which makes the hammers strike, etc. Right or wrong, I do get that at home...its been a particular focus of mine to get that element right with the proper weight and yet maintain speed, transient response as well. Its also not right to feel the weight and then feel like the finger never came off the piano and got stuck there an extra second too long. With the system above, I bet that tonal depth, body of the note comes in nicely.

I bet those VTL monos are wonderful. Plug and play to the max.

Thanks Lloyd. I'm sure I'd love that setup too.

Nothing wrong with a good ole tube whore. It has always been that way for sound quality, emotion and ease of listening. Lots of power is way overrated IMHO . Unless your listening room is an auditorium. Tubes rule!!!!!
