Sweet little KEF LS50! I love them so far ....

Hi Toomey,

If you are asking me, I'm not personally excited by using subs on my LS50, or any speaker for that matter. I understand and have experienced the benefits. I take them and my Klipsch RP160M for what they are and I have to say, with the right amp, I'm getting plenty of bass. I still have my full size speakers for listening full range.

The stands I have right now are, I think, pretty good. Maybe a few inches too tall, but not terrible. I am not critically listening with speakers like these. Both of my bookshelf speakers are doing a great job and actually way better than I could ever have imagined.

Well the height is supposed to put the driver at ear level... however for me in my room I have them a tad low. Exactly at ear level would have put the rear port above the wall in the loft. I felt it was important to have them below wall level :)... A second REL could certainly be used. In my situation I didn't feel it is necessary. Maybe another upgrade for down the road :)...

Interesting. Do you think that neither pair of speakers are good enough to use for critical listening?

I critically listen with these, but Joe has a totally different level of equipment at his disposal :)....

Grinch Sminch. I just tell people the truth and try and have a sense of humor that some people get and some don't. Mike did say I was a smartass though.

Yes

No, both certainly are good enough.

Hi!
I am using the LS50's with the Spec amp while in between speakers.
My speaker stands are not quite tall enough to put them at ear level.

Do you think if I angled the stands up it would work?

I agree with Jim Smith that two subs are ideal, and I'm looking into adding two REL's.
The LS50's sound amazing, have great soundstage and are very enjoyable.
The Spec has 60 watts, and it seems to be enough for late night listening.

I am curious how close the LS50's speakers are to the ones used in the Blade's.
Anyone know?

Once I get the Avantgarde's I'll move the LS50 to the office or sunroom, I can't imagine selling these gems.

The LS50s are so great at dispersing the sound that I don't believe having them a tad low or high would be a big issue.
