Hello,

Looking for speaker recommendation for the Job 225 power amplifier. My budget is $6K. I listen to mostly Jazz and my source is CD.

Thanks

If you are not listening too loud, Revel Studio2 at your upper limit are great. Almost any one of the JBL monitors are superb and a lot less money. Possibly some Martens, Nola, Sonus Faber, etc. are great.

Please tell us what you are interested in speaker-wise and maybe we can narrow it down. My Job INTegrated on my Studio2 sounds awesome.

Pick nothing below 3 ohms, and 89dB or higher, preferably closer to 90+dB.

Revel F208, MSRP $5,000. My friend bought a pair two years ago and loves them. I helped him pick them out. We’re both avid jazz listeners but these speakers do rock and classical just as well. They perform way above their price point.

Best,
Ken

Thank you all for the responses thus far. My equipment is rather "mid-fi". Job Amp and Pre-amp. I have 3 CD players that I rotate and they are Creek Audio, Cambridge Audio and Marantz. Can't afford more expensive stuff with 1 kid about to start college at MIT and 3 more going to college in the next 8 years. First-world problems...I am blessed to be able to listen to good music.

Besides matching well with the Job 225 and sounding great, the other criteria may read like I am looking for a date. :D They have to pass the WAF criteria as they will be in an open-floor plan living room measuring 19 ft x 16 ft.

I like a floor-standers if possible. European preferably because they usually have nicer design aesthetics. But not a fan of the British monitor look, so Harbeth is out. The following brands I am considering:

Dynaudio
Penaudio
Sonus Faber
Totem (it is Canadian and some of the models do look pleasing to the eye)
Spendor
Fyne (new company, reminds me of Tannoy)

I also thought about Vandersteen Treo CT (American I know), but they are above my budget.

Thanks

Harbeth 30.1 or 30.2 - but I now see that is out. Another option with high WAF and small floorstanding feature is the Rosso Fiorentino Certaldo. It retails slightly above your budget at $6,500, but build quality and elegance are unparalleled at that price point.

Another option is the Usher Mini Dancer Two.

Totem is nice but my favorite in that price range is the Hawk. I don't like the Forest.

given his budget of 6k, that will buy only 'one' Studio 2 (new), if you're lucky !

agree 100%, I pulled the trigger on the Studio 2's but man those 208's are wonderful !

Or the Elac Andante AF-61 which retails for I believe $5000.

Mike--did you ever pick up Elac? I think you were talking about it at one point.

No. After their made in China QC problems and delays, I changed my mind.

PSB Imagine T'3's are great but are over $7K. Might consider the T2's if your room is smaller. I loved the sound of the PSB Synchrony's. Both the Synchony and its replacement the T2 and T3 are compared to speakers in the $15K-20K range by Stereophile.

Agree with Harbeths. But consider Sonus Faber Venere S, Focal Aria 948's. Agree with the Elac Adante based on reviews, but I haven't heard them.

May want to give a listen to Magnepan 3.7i's and the Monitor Audio Gold 300.

I suspect with judicious shopping he can get the T3 for closer to his intended target price just need to look around.
