Odyssey Audio amplifiers ...

Klaus was in room 9000 this year, the door was locked when I tried and I didn't get back. I have had a Stratos for a couple of years
and it is solid. The Kismets have a very good reputation but I have not heard them. Read more about them on AudioCircle, and Klaus is very honest and easy to talk with if you call him after hours.

Joe,
I can't speak to the Kismet or anything newer, but my Stratos Plus has been rock solid for many years.

Thank you Brian. I've never heard a bad word from any of Klaus' customers.

I've been reading the posts there, Klaus has quite a following.

I have a "Kismet in Khartago" that I just got on a trade for some 300B amps I had. I'm going to rotate it into my main system next week along with my Juicy Music Blueberry Xtreme 2 preamp. I've been wanting to get some tubes back into my main system via the preamp and the Odyssey gear is known for playing nice with a tube front end.

I will be rotating out my Job 225/Pre2 combo for this... So I'll be sure and report back as I know you're a fan. I find the Jobs to be very good in my system with my Salk Songtowers.

My first configuration was with the Stratos and a Sound Valves tube pre and for what it all cost, it was a nice combo.

I get confused with all these show names, maybe someone else was using his gear.

Klaus was there. I went into his room, but at the I came they were experiencing some technical issues so I left.

Joe,

I own a pair of Stratos Extreme monoblocks and Candela tube preamp in main system...... they are in the best for the $ category and great sound ..... interconnects,

power cords and speaker cable don't break the bank either.... Klaus is a straight shooter !!! Derived from the German high end company, Symphonic Line

Great upgrade path and super long warranty.

All the best,

Tom

I've had a pair of Kismet monoblocks for about 2 months now. I originally picked up a pair of Stratos and had them sent to Klaus for the upgrade to the best Klaus has to offer. There are three circuit boards that used in the Odyssey lineup from what I understand with entry level being green, then red, with the black board being the Kismet. I think if one was to order a pair of Kismets brand new they would be in the $6k to $7k range depending on the case they're in.

I've never heard any other amp by Klaus than the one I got now so I can't compare but the Kismet pair I have now are sensational. The first thing that caught my attention was the 3 d holographic presentation while being very smooth and delicate. Then the bass kicked in and I've never heard such detailed and articulate bass while hitting hard and deep. I'm really happy with what I got right now and supposedly they're going to break in even further in the next couple of months.

i don't know how many other amp manufacturers that offer to set the bias specifically to the voltage coming out of your outlet but Klaus makes this part of his usual business when putting your amp together. After about 4 months of letting the amps burn in I'll revisit the bias and talk with Klaus about checking to see if anything needs adjusting.

Thank you very much Tom. I get the feeling Klaus is one of a kind and makes superb gear.

Tomy,

Thank you for your thoughts. I can't wait for you further updates. I'll be in contact with Klaus to see what he recommends.

I got a Stratos with all the mods a while ago, been waiting to use it until I get my zero-gain preamp built and speakers in the house. At RMAF I was lucky enough to get the speakers I've been looking for... a friend brought me a pair of Pioneer S-1EX. The preamp is a Tortuga LDR > Aikido tube buffer and should be done in a couple weeks or so. Getting close! I'll update when I get it all together, currently using a Crown XLS amp on the Pioneers and it's surprisingly good but I'm pretty sure the Stratos will be a significant step up. The Stratos has too much gain to use with my current preamp.

Awesome Dave! Can't wait for your updates. I am sure the combination will be superb.

When I bought my Symphonic Line monos from him (essentially as demos, he had ordered and imported them for someone else who barely took delivery and returned them after less than a month) he re-converted them back to their native 240V because I already had dedicated twin 240V outlets. While doing that, he had me test and report to him voltages from the outlets at different times of the day for like two weeks before biasing them. I thought that showed good attention to detail.

I've seen posts where someone picked up an Odyssey amp off the used market and when they get it plugged into their system they're wondering where the great sound everybody raves about is. Then Klaus usually chimes in and says that amp was biased for a particular voltage that is probably not working for their room. Then after getting it dialed in right for their outlet the amp sings beautifully. Supposedly the higher the bias the more musical and warm it is and the lower the bias makes it much more detailed but maybe clinical if dialed too low.

On on a side note p59teitel, I just got a couple more Star Sound platforms and have them under the Odyssey amps. Absolutely beautiful!

Many moons ago, I purchased a 'Khartago' amplifier directly from Odyssey Audio. There was a lot of hype surrounding this amplifier when it first hit the scene. I suppose that's because in those days, it was unusual to have access to a 100+ wpc amp that could deliver the Hi-Fi goods for well under $1,000.

All in all, I really liked the piece. Not only was the Khartago supremely well-built, it possessed the kind of linear voicing that made it easy to integrate into a wide variety of system types. Eventually I moved onto other things, as audiophiles often do. Still, whenever I recall my time with that amplifier, a crack a little smile.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed the Odyssey room at RMAF this year. The sound was a a little too pumped up in the treble for my tastes, but I nonetheless managed to enjoy the sound. Of course, kickin' it with Klauss for awhile certainly didn't hurt. :)

I owned a pair of Stratos amps that were configured to work as monos. I sent one in last year and he built his ultimate Startos. This is the double black board layout with the $600 filter caps. It is a good sounding amp but the output is to high for my tastes. I assume he sets it that way because it sounds more dynamic to have to move the volume control so little? I use a passive pre. H-Cat series 9. It is out of the system now. I switched back to the ARC VT100 MkIII.
