The Listening Chair is pleased to welcome veteran reviewer Steven Stone to our team. In this video Steven reviews the Schiit Skoll Phono Preamp. Designed and built in Texas, the Skoll uses simple, fully discrete, differential Class A zero feedback gain stages and a fully passive RIAA network. There is no op-amp. According to Schiit, the Skoll’s gain stage is compound JFET-BJT pair running on massive 64V rails for enhanced linearity and freedom from overload. The result, the company says, is an “insanely quiet” component that has an over 100dB signal to noise ratio for 40dB of gain, and up to 70dB of gain on tap.But can the Skoll perform against more expensive competition?
