Kraemer Designs D~400 Hypex NC400 Mono Amp Build

gorgeous. I demo rowland 525 and merrill veritas next week on my tad cr-1. I will update my impressions.

Very interested as well, Nick. I was just reading a review of the Merrill Veritas monos. I'll post to a new thread in the amp section so as not to derail this one.

Matt, really enjoyed the entire process and your devotion to make something truly unique. As I will demo Merrill Veritas this week at a very different price point it is eye opening how much an ncore1200 would cost if you put it together and how sonically it would compare to the ncore 400 based amps. Merrill W is a lovely gentleman but when his prices double in less than a year you wonder how much is build quality and parts and how much is price increase just to b taken seriously by the audio community. As I have CR-1 that really excel with high power amps, I hope high current low heat emitting efficient amps with great sonics continue to flourish. At any price I think everyone will take your designs seriously! Kudos,
NIck

Have all the cases been spoken for? I am embarking on a mono block nc400 build and would love them to live in such a fine abode!

Hi Nick,

I've spoken with Merrill recently, he wanted me to design a new case for him but turned it down because i have more projects coming.

I believe the price is determined by Hypex, so they probably wanted it to go up. The board it self that goes into the NC1200 amps, does not cost much more then the NC400.

Being a machinist, i know a LOT about what goes into to products and how much things actually cost to the companies.

I am making two more cases for a friend. He wants me to change the current design just a bit.

The price has increased to $850 per case because i lost money on the first and second batch of cases :(

Email me at [email protected] and we can talk.

I am making one more pair of cases for a friend (Brian), he has asked me to change the design a little.

Just got done with the covers, the cases will be next, should be able to get most of the case op's done today but tomorrow i'll finish them.

I'll upload pictures later today and tomorrow :)

My friend Brian wanted some unique cases, so here they are. I redid the front and bottom cover, he wanted the top design to flow else were on the case, i think i did that :)

Also just to add another touch, i straight line sanded the cases and covers using a sanding table instead of using scotch brite pads to finish the surface but i did leave the machining marks on the back of the cases. It really takes it up another level but it takes 5 times as long when straight line sanding them.

Hope you like them Brian!!!!

thnx Matt, Enjoying my time with Merrill Veritas not sure if it is profoundly diiferent than other Class D based amps with my TAD cr-1. I hope you continue your cases with other possible innards. Perhaps a mosfet design is down the road?
Nick

Thanks guys!!

Nick,

Merrill contacted me a month ago and asked if I would redesign his amp cases but I sadly turned it down, just so much going on right now. I probably get a contact like that 10-15 times a year.

A customer (who owns the Merrill blocks) ordered 3 400 blocks from me, he likes them both a lot!!

If I found a circuit designer that would make me an excellent class A/B board, I'd put them in a very nice case :)
