HifiShark.com is a search engine for second hand hifi. It collects for sale ads from about 60 sites in 13 countries twice a day and allows anyone to search the collected data.

The aspiration of hifishark is to make the second hand market more transparent and easier to navigate for everybody - from the most caśual of users to the trained professional.

The latest feature of HifiShark.com is a forum section for the discussion of A/V related topics and topics related to the second hand market. In particular hifishark.com hopes to become a knowledge central for factual information regarding specific pieces of equipment collecting links to, e.g., specs, operating instructions, service instructions, tips and tricks, as well as a second hand market analysis in a single model specific thread. The forums and also this documentation effort are of course open to everyone who would like to contribute.

Anyhow, the hifishark initiative is still in development and I would very much like you guys to not hesitate in contacting me if you have suggestions for improvements or you know sites that should be included in the searches.

And remember: If you would like to contribute to the forums that would be tremendous too.

I'm sure you know this, but your engine finds ANYTHING for sale that you can be looking for.

I searched for VAC and the results set included everything from Vacuum Cleaners to Vac-U-Lock Dildoes:skeptical:

LMAO! What happens if you put in Mcintosh!

Yes, essentially I know this - it sort of comes with the territory (used stuff) that the datasources are heavily poluted. In this case it is probably CraigsList that is the big sinner, as their categorical structure is extremely poor - electronics is the category for hifi gear...

In these cases you have to choose whether out want to be too dismissive (filter agains brand list) or too inclusive (include everything and filter based on user requests). For now I have chosen the later because I think that the benefits of being able to search ALL of CragsList from a single input field by far outweighs the disadvantages, i.e. getting too much information in some cases.

Thanks for the info, however, I will continue to improve the site.

I have made a few changes to hifishark.

You can now follow the latest searches and the latest forum posts from the front page, and get more excessive information about said subjects on separate pages.

Don't hold your suggestions back!

The search precision has been further improved.

A history function has been added such that changes in ad description or price can be tracked.

Finally, entry level subscribers now have access to a search agent function that will send them an email when a sought after item is next for sale.

A number of improvements have been made to hifiShark:

Searches now include craigslist i Europe and Canada as well as the US.

Furthermore, it is now possible to include US, Canadian, Brittish, Dutch, French, and German Ebay into searches by the tick of a box.

Searches are faster than ever - in particular the repeated searches that occur if you click an add link and then come back with the back button.

Searches should no longer fail. Sometimes, searches simply did not complete - hopefully this is now a thing of the past.

Seach agents (reserved feature for entry level subscribers) can now be administered from a dedicated page.

I've used this on/off for the past few weeks. Do find it informative!:peace:

I now added Yahoo Auctions of Japan to hifishark, which I personally think is really cool - the Japanese domestic market has many interesting products.

Hifishark now also searches the two polish sites Allegro and Ebay.

The search for sold items has been improved, such that ended Ebay items are now included in the results - but only those provided by Ebay themselves. The history cintionality and other kinds of statistics still does not include Ebay items (and never will).

The presentation of past searches has been improved such as to provide a more detailed information.
