Has anyone compared the RCA vs XLR outputs from their Lampi dac in the same system?

I suspect that is true as my four versions have always loved tubes. I have used four different 6DJ8 preamps with them. The current pre is the first using 6SN7's. Seems to have more bottom end drive.

I am indeed. With my GAT as preamp into my amps, right now the Brystn 28's, and it is superb,

It was interesting that the rmaf feedback generally felt that the golden gate to the Jeff Rowland amp was sublime. I interpreted this as solid state in the chain is a good thing - I use my golden gate this way. Into audio research pre and Krell monoblocks. Reflecting on this I think the golden gate adds sufficient colour and delight that a super clean signal onwards might be a good thing rather than passing through a tube power. Just a thought. I guess it is speaker dependent too of course.

Bill - don't read too much into this.

Getting back to cryo... I have some of my tubes cryo treated at time of purchase to weed out those susceptible to failure. It is my understanding the process stresses the tubes and exposes those susceptible to failure so only those strong actually survive the process. Hope this helps

Absolutely, I believe the tubes are stronger and last longer as a result. At the very least, the weaker ones are weeded out.

For those times I want music playing for hours and hours on end, I hate to run my tube power amps for that long, so SS amps are the way to go for me. The Lampi GG and tube preamp goes a LONG way to maximizing the musicality of SS. My 28bsst2's are not your typical SS and the whole experience is wonderful.

Joe

One balanced preamp I forgot about is the Aesthetix. CD had one for a while and I think Mike C has had one for a fairly long time. Price is not bad if you find one used like CD did.

Yes Jack, I have had the Aesthetix Calypso Signature in my system for a little over a year now. Loaded with top notch NOS tubes it really is quite special.

Joe, if you ever get back on the fence looking for a "reasonably" priced balanced linestage the Calypso Sig is worth a listen (IMO) especially with NOS tubes.

Thank you Mike and Jack for the recommendation.

I absolutely will keep that in mind. I know they are generally loved and great performers.

I love tubes going into SS. I have 3 tubed sources (GG DAC, Doshi Phono pre, Doshi Tape pre) all going into my Pass XP-30/XA-100.5
