Has anyone had any first hand experience with the Eminent Technology speakers in particular the LFT-8 or 8b. My wife and I were talking about speakers this evening when I remembered that ET's small "factory" facility is just over 10 miles from my house. I first met Bruce in the early 80's when he was working on military projects at Wayne Coloney Engineering. While there he and several others developed the Colonay Air Bearing Turntable. When Coloney went under the TT design was sold to Mapleknoll and Bruce formed his own company locally. I have heard the turntable several times as well as Bruce's ET tonearms but never the speakers. Was thinking about contacting Bruce and picking up a pair for a trial run.

A friend had a pair of the older original ones. They had the typical electrosratic sound but were a bit bright and it was difficult to get the bass to play well in the room and then meld with the panels.
The improved model has received some good reviews.
It will be intestering to get your feedback on them. P.S. Make sure you bring plenty of power to the party.

Just a point of clarification regarding the Eminent Technology speakers, they're a planar magnetic design and do not operate electrostatically.

Plenty of power on hand and with him being local with 30 day MBG no risk involved plus have never been to Bruce's shop in the almost 35 years it has been in the same location. Worth a visit and conversation at the least.

First post here.

I owned the LFT-8 (I think B) quite a few years ago. Bought them from a guy about an hour drive from me so I listened briefly at his house before breaking them down and packing them into my VW Jetta.

After setting them up in my room I did a more thorough listen and discovered one of the tweeters wasn't working. A quick check with an ohm meter showed an open tweeter. I called Bruce and he sent me a new tweeter which wasn't all that difficult to replace. Price was reasonable also.

Once everything was up and running I listened for about a month before deciding they weren't for me. I sold them locally to a guy who came to audition them and played Abbey Road at ear splitting levels before deciding to buy. He wanted to make sure they played loud enough without strain to ensure his son wouldn't blow them up.

I've heard them for years and have had them in my house twice. I like them, but they aren't for me either. I think if you have a lot of power and top equipment, then it's a good value, but don't expect good bass from it. Top to bottom it's not as coherent as speakers I've auditioned in the under 5k range. It's nearly impossible to mate a dynamic woofer with this panel at this price range. That is by no means a cut at the speaker as it's outstanding with teh right set up.
