Hi Guys,

I finally ordered my system which will be a dCS Bartok / Gryphon Diablo 300 / Magico A3.
I took me a while to settle because I couldn't travel much and audition as I wanted but now the system is on order and coming soon.
I have to thank members of this forum who have been helpful and supportive like Darrel who also has a similar setup and all of your inputs have been valuable.

I am now facing one of the most critical choice in having to decide for speaker cables.

I'm essentially looking at a few different ones:

-Audioquest - (robin hood silver sc - wind xlr - hurricane pc for the amp and silver cloud for the source)
-Siltech - (770L sc + xlr and siltech pc) however I'm not too sure about their pc
-Shunyata - Alpha 2 series for sc, xlr and pc
-Also Nordost possibly?

I do not have to possibility to audition them let alone compare them.
I'm also open to new suggestions and your inputs are appreciated,

Thanks

I don’t have that quality of gear bryston instead. However I do have Siltech 550 across the board and the SPX-800 across all my gear. I went to the top with cardas, across the board upper wireworld, audioquest and nothing and I mean nothing sounds as good as the Siltech 550’s. The 770 lines brings you more of it. I wouldn’t hesitate for the Siltech line. They also get better with time and never will degrade. Late edit I have had Nordost hemidall 2 and hated it. Sounds thin and artificial.

The Cable Company has a loaner program, I would take advantage of it. Congrats and good luck!

congratulations on the new system! you might consider starting with dueland wire -- many here swear by it and it is very wallet friendly.

i can't recall anyone with magicos or gryphon having experience with duelund but there is more info and opinions here:

Funny, I actually used a pair of single strand Dueland cables in my system for about one to two weeks. And then put my Cardas Clear Cygnus back into the system. Dueland gives you clarity, dynamics and is musical. But, going back to the Cardas the instruments have more body and weight. Your system may vary. But, that was my take away.

Seeing you are in Europe.

Ocellia Reference RCA Interconnects, Speaker & Power Cables.

Otherwise Siltech or Jorma would be my choice for your excellent system.

I'd leave the others you mention.

Bruce

Thanks all for chiming in.
I did hear good things about MIT cables but I don't think they're well represented in France. I checked the importer and he doesn't even list them on his site.
They also don't come cheap!

I'm waiting to hear back from the Siltech reseller about price and avails.
Anything non European will also come pricier also because of import taxes etc...

Very true.

What about Crystal Cable? I believe they are a European brand.

Why is that if I may ask?

You really should find a good and reputable dealer to work this out for you with the possibility to try a setup in your own system.

Hi Marcus,

I agree with your statement.
In my case, there are no dealers close to me and the closest ones do not carry the brands I'm interested in.

On the subject of finding a good dealer, it is not an easy task.
It's not only about carrying the brands, it's also about knowing how put a system together and finding someone having similar "audio aesthetics" preferences.
On several occasions, I went to demo speakers or electronics I was interested in and it sounded absolutely terrible.
I am pretty sure that it was because of the way the system was setup, cables, power conditionner on amps, etc etc...
Then what do you do in this case? If everything you listen to is not working but the dealer talks like he has the 8th wonder of the world in his shop?

I can share some exemples.
I called up a dealer to book a demo of a specific amp.
When I arrive, he had the top of the line of the same brand plugged(which cost 5 times more), but not the amp I wanted to demo.
I am surprised but I don't say anything and I start to listen. It was terrible. It was plugged on a power filter, the system didn't have any dynamics and it was veiled.
He didn't even plug the amp I wanted to hear.

Another dealer, I wanted to audition speakers.
The person doesn't even ask me one question about what I want, what I like to listen to, what I look for in a system.
I just told him to plug a streamer so I can listen to tracks I am familiar with.
I arrive, CD player is plugged...I didn't like the setup, so we change the amps. The other amps were not warm, they sounded terrible again.
But the dealer didn't even ask me what I thought about it. He told me with confidence that we will meet again soon because I won't find better speakers.

Not easy...

It's a shame I am not close to your guys because I like a lot of the brands you carry and you seem to be very professional.

In post #5 above I recommended to use The Cable Company's loaner program. As Lucidear indicated you are in Europe and the loaner program does not apply, sorry about my misinformation. What I would do before pulling the trigger on cables is I would use any speaker cable just to hook them up, even zip cord. This would give an idea of how your system interacts with your room and your preferences. I tend to prefer Cardas with most metal dome tweeters. Good luck.

Op

If you look at audio-markt.de, there are dealers selling used cables there.
There is one in Holland who seems to offer a ton of different brands of cables, maybe you can contact them and make an arrangement to get a cable they recommend, and if you don’t like it exchange it for other ones...
I have never dealt with them so please don’t take this as a recommendation, just an idea...
