You may not agree with the order, but there certainly are some incredible albums on this list.

I would probably put Abbey Road above Songs in the Key of Life. Rumors would be right up there in the top 3 for me too.

Almost too many great albums to pick a definitive number one.

woah. really? i guess this is the entertainment world-view of 2022. does not surprise me when i think about it.

i know i won't bother looking at this list source ever again.

It’s Rollingstones , nuff said !

There should have been oh so many qualifiers between "greatest" and "albums", such as pop/rock, hiphop, reggae, modern country... Sure, jazz, classical, and other musical genres may not have a high profile in today's eyeblink cultural awareness, but it goes without saying that some of greatest music on albums is in other genres than those addressed by this list.

And I grew up with Rolling Stone

Rob, at least there are some jazz albums on the list. KOB, Love Supreme, Ah-Um and a few more. Larry

Agreed, my "Best" recordings seem to change by the day. Other than for the click bait/eyeballs/engagements is there a need for this sort of rank order listing? I have never felt compelled to view my musical preferences as a competition.

Well, there was that one time when my mother asked why I liked The Dave Clark 5 more than The Beatles. It must have been the sax (or that incredible reverb) on "Glad All Over" but I was young and she cut me some slack.

And I don't recall hearing any but maybe one in any Suncoast Video :)

Why don't you demo with Abraxas sometime?

sitting here at work from memory....

LEVEL 1----Revolver, Sgt. Peppers, Abbey Road, Let It Bleed, Highway 61, C,S,&N, LZ1, LZ4, Tapestry, DSOTM, Rumours, Nevermind.

LEVEL 1a----Harvest Moon, KOB, Pet Sounds, Eagles Greatest Hits, Thriller, Are You Experienced, Who's Next, What's Going On, Out Of Time, Eva--Live At Blues Alley (this last one is a guilty pleasure).

i am going with a combination of my own experiences and preferences, musical quality, musical influence, rock and pop history, and artist prominence.

i have holes in my musical experience. don't know hip hop/rap at all. missed the 80's musically due to raising kids.

You're right!
That's why I tink that "what if I went to a desert island?" exercise. Which were the albums that I couldn't miss?
They would have to be of different types of music. Could be these 10...
(So unfair to Portuguese music. Only 3 albums...)

RollingStone panned the first few Clash albums. Years later when they published most of their album reviews in book form, they had significantly upgraded their rating of the Clash albums with a note saying, in essence, that their original reviews where wrong. My tastes never aligned with theirs'.

I prefer your alternative of the desert island list but it's still a struggle. If the desert island had decent high speed internet I'd just bring an Aurender N20 ;-), but if it only had electricity, these are the recordings I'd want to have on hand (ask me tomorrow and 70% might/will be different);

In no particular order,

Jimi Hendrix, Electric Ladyland
Joni Mitchell , Hejira,
John Abercrombie, Timeless
Sonny Rollins, Road Shows Vol 1
Emmy Lou Harris, Spyboy
Kurt Elling, Nightmoves
Sting, Brand New Day
Bill Bruford (Bruford), One of a Kind
Tedeschi Trucks Band, LIVE; Everybody's Talkin'
John Coltrane, The Complete 1961 Village Vanguard Recordings

No SRV... Says it all really.

I would add in Suzanne Vega Solitude Standing.

Today Couldn't Stand the Weather is on the list.

Solitude Standing; terrific record, I have the original vinyl but no TT setup at the moment.

It's from September of 2020.

My wife and I browsed the top 20 and yeah we have a lot of issues with this list including their pics of "best" Beatles and Stones albums. There would have to give the nod to Sgt. Peppers and Let It Bleed. With Revolver the 2nd-best Beatles.
