No rumour. He posted it on FBook yesterday and finally I got the confirmatory text message this morning. The one thing that rarely gets mentioned is just how EASY the Lampi is on tubes. I would GUESS it extends typical tube life by 3-4 times. That makes buying those Elrog or Takasuki 300b's a little more palatable.
Rumor has it the 300b tube is now approved in the Lampi Balanced DAC.
Anyone know for sure?
Norman,
It used to be for the Big 7 that you had the choice for standard caps of Dueland Copper or Jupiter Copper. Is the only standard choice now the Jupiter Copper?
Ken
See post #182. 300b and Px4 are approved in the balanced Dac. PX4 is a 101d equivalent and 300b has an even LOWER voltage drop than 101d, so I was pretty sure it would have worked in any case, given my new understanding of how the Bal circuit work and how heat is generated.Hi Mike,
Have you decided whether you're going to stick with the GG SE or change to the GG Balanced? Seems like a tough choice because your GG SE is working so well right now with the pair of Elrog 300B's. But with the GG Balanced, you could run straight to your Lampi 211 mono amps without any preamp but you would have to find quad matched tubes and we're not sure if the 300B's will work yet.
Best,
Ken
As purely an observer of what you guys are going thru with the Lampizator product I have to say it sure seems confused.
With the many variations like Lampi XYZ can only take 123 tubes vs. Lampi ABC can only take 456 tubes vs. Lampi LMNOP can only take 789 tubes vs. SE vs. Balanced with the same or wholly different tube caveats vs. NOS tubes vs. New Production tubes vs. this cap set in the XYZ vs. that cap set in the ABC vs. DSD only vs. PCM/DSD vs. a wood and aluminum chassis vs. all aluminum chassis vs. all copper chassis vs. et al. (the choices literally seem endless and change every month or so from what I'm seeing) then throw in some typos/misquoting of tube types allowed or in use, sprinkle in what appears to be end user frustration with not understanding what was supposed to have been written or assumed and I think you have a recipe for real confusion.
Even if I could justify the cost of a Lampizator product and also dedicate my life to following their changes, I don't think I'd subject myself to this kind of torture. Yeah, maybe I'd miss out on all the glorious sound of a Lampizator by not working thru this torture but I think I'd be more comfortable walking away with my sanity in check even if I had to settle for a little less sound quality with a different product.
You guys amaze me with your willingness to embrace and unravel complex products!
p.s. I'm not bashing the product, just amazed at how complex it seems.
300b is one tube I have almost no expereince with. I heard them for 5 mins in the unbroken-in GG back in March, but these were Gold Lions and they were brand new, cold. The WE replica 101ds were in overnight and so had a big advantage and given the limited time, we stuck with them.
Elrogs in a GG bested the Sophia Carbon Princesses, according to Andy, so I can see why Mike loves them.
Mark will have loads of fun with Mike testing tubes in their next get together. That is one gathering I would love to be at...even if girlie music is played. LoL
Trust me Norman, I'll find out if the Lampi can Rock!
Mike, release the Kraken!
Bring the JAN 5r4gy too! Let's have that 67v voltage drop with the guitar sag.
BTW, if internet research can be trusted, the 1940's JAN WW2 versions (to say 1945) with the dull black plates, extra filament support and the slightly sloping double D getters is supposed to be the best version....even besting vinatge WE 274b!
My GE is 4-17 and that apprantly means 17th week of 1954 and is post WW2. Also plates are more gray than silver. I ordered a vintage 1940s tube on Ebay yesterday for a good (surprisingly) price and it should be here in a week or 2. I will first see if the seller is truthful in the description and if so, if it really makes a difference.
Yes, me too.I am not usually a classical music fan but have been blown away by what it sounds like through my Lampizator. There is something amazing going on and I absolutely love it. Now I am rotating though more and more classical, surprising myself and enjoying my system even more.
Oh, I will. And I'll bring my Elrog's just so Mark can hear the sheer beauty of their sounds.

I would love to hear the differences in tubes, since I know nothing about them. :celebrate008_2:
Me too, Mark. I would love to hear the Elrog 300B, PSVane WE 101D Replicas, EML 45 Anniversary Globes and EML 45 Mesh.

Is Joe still famous or even more so?
