Last week, I had the pleasure of living with the Acoustic Arts Mono II amps and Tube Preamp II MK2. The amps are a MOSFET design, the preamp is tube based with 12AX7’s.
The combination was warm and musically engaging. The amps had good grip on the bass and the tube preamp provided the warmth and richness one would expect. After experimenting, this is a combo that should ideally be kept together as a pairing.
The amps retail for approximately $25,000/pair and put out 300 watts/channel. The preamp is approximately $16,000.
There is a review in the most recent TAS: http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/accustic-arts-amp-ii-mk-3-stereo-power-amplifier/
Special thanks to Randy for driving 500 miles each way for me to hear them. They are definitely on my radar.
