Hello AGD community—I recently picked up a U-280 and am a little concerned by a noise it makes when switching into HT bypass mode. It gives a clearly audible “pop” or “click” kind of sound from my B&W 803D4s. I was thinking it may be firmware related and wrote to Aavik via their contact form—no answer.

Does anyone here have the current firmware versions for the U and/or D series of components ( I have U280, D180..along with a decent amount of Ansuz kit). Finally, is there any way to upgrade the firmware myself or do I need to go back to the dealer (60 miles away).

Thanks for any guidance—r.

Sorry for delay—was traveling. So, the firmware version is 0.3.2. I am PC capable and will contact the dealer I purchased from for advice on updating. Glad to receive any other tips.

We are testing the SQ difference this weekend between using the internal U280 DAC vs the external D180. Not as easy a decision as I would have thought. The separation of units seems to have a benefit…but the D180 seems brighter…better for some tracks, not for all.

0.3.2 is an easy flash if you have a usb to serial cable and have the upgrade. Takes about 30 seconds. No issues on my U-280.

Quick update: the unit seems to have had a real problem and is off to service. I updated to 0.3.4 firmware, but no change. Further testing showed the “pop” I was hearing in my tweeters in HT bypass was present on all inputs if the level was higher than about 30…and HT had no pop when the default recommendation of 0 was replaced by a level of 50…which did not work for my intended HT setup. A damned shame. I’m currently testing an MBL N51 Integrated with HT bypass—but missing the aesthetics of my Aavik. The MBL has a great soundstage and really works well with the 803D4s…
