5 of the best turntables in the world?

If I ever get back into analog I’d look at Linn. I have an old Technics 1200 collecting dust with a pile of vinyl, but my digital sounds so good I don’t see the need for it anymore.

Well Mike a couple of your lines made the list. Silly me, I had one of the best tables in an older P3 and foolishly moved to a Clearaudio, who knew :). He did preface by saying a table on the list would have to be one he tried. I still think he should maybe remove the word "best" and replace with something like "value", or, "my favorite 5".

I suppose it's debateable if the LP12 or P3 should be on a best list, but, they are proven classics to be sure.

I know that, but Rega's aren't "top 5 turntable in the world".

Kronos
AF1
TW
Continuum
Walker
....a list like that is Best in World.

Best VALUE is a whole different ball game.

Isn’t this more like a most expensive list :)?

But seriously, I think good results can be achieved in several ways, with suspended and mass platter systems being two popular concepts.

On that somewhat funny list in the article the Vpi Avenger is pretty good and I also heard the Thales recently and liked it. But there are serious contenders missing like Brinkmann, TW Acoustic, Oracle, AMG, Music Hall, Avid, Feikert, Linn and many more.

I believe that this list is just made to create a buzz.
It makes no sense.
BTW he states "5 OF the best turntables of the world". Not the best 5.

It a play on words.
.
Like you noted. He noted 5 OF the best Turntables in World, not the best 5

Nothing but a buzz article to put a burr under the butt of turntable gurus. And it worked.

It's not even 5 of the best. Its simply, 5 turntables. Oh, and one of them has speed problems. Geez.

QFT

The most expensive are not always the best.

Here is the deal boys and girls: Everyone of us could create a list of what we consider are the 5 best turntables in the world and NO ONE would agree with your list. First of all, no one has heard every table in the world. Let's say you claim to have heard half the tables in the world, you still are just giving your opinion about what you like and what you heard. And if you claimed to have heard half the tables in the world, how many of those listening sessions were conducted in your room with your system? Oh, just a handful?? You heard a bunch of tables at shows and that is supposed to mean something in the grand scheme of things?

We have vocal people in this hobby who don't even own a stereo system or a room to put it in who travel around the world listening to other people's systems and they post "reviews" of their short term listening sessions of a strange system in a strange room and somehow draw meaningful conclusions and try and pass on advice to other people who are looking to upgrade their systems. Their "advice" is worth about as much as someone putting together a list of the five best anything in this hobby.

Bonzo....err...I mean, Bingo!

It seems like a strange list, but many TTs, if set up right, in the right system, can sound great. My Kuzma M is as good as anything I have heard.
