What is the most bizarre Wedding you have ever been to?

For me, it was a good friend, whose daughter from his first wedding got married. Jewish girl with an artsy flare for Shock Art and other extreme behavior. The groom was a hillbilly from West Virginia. She was on the heavy side with some e of the largest Uhem...breasts besides Ursala Udders from A Dirty Shame movie fame. He was about 90 lbs wet. A very unlikely couple to say the least.

Anyway, the wedding itself took place in the Fells Planetarium at the Franklin Institute in Philly. The ceremony was performed by another Jewish friend who was ordained as a Minister online only days before the gig. The ceremony was anything but normal, with lots of comedy thrown in and a slide show on the dome of the planetarium.

The Reception was held in the Dinosaur room of the Academy of Natural Sciences down the street from the Franklin. My table was under the tail of the huge T-Rex skeleton. The groom's family and friends were dressed for the occasion in tattered suits and dress shoes, yep Chuck Taylors for many.

This was a few years ago and as my wife and I predicted when we got the invite, it wasn't gonna last and it didn't, but I doubt I will ever be at a more bizarre wedding in my lifetime.

Anyone have some doozies to share?

I don't know if I could ever top that one. All the weddings I've attended have been pretty normal and uneventful. I do remember a particular wedding where the meal was steak and the steak was the size of a quarter (no joke), served with three small potatoes and a few small carrots. This was after waiting hours for the bride and groom and you had 150 very hungry people! After the dinner....you still had 150 very hungry people!

Mostly "normal" ones here - never something like that craziness you experienced Brian. As a counter to Mike's, probably the best/most fun are Indian (specifically Sikh/Punjab) weddings. Three days of copious amounts of food/drink/dancing.

I have another, but not as bizarre. Where I live, is the US headquarters of a sub christian religion, Swedenborg. The Gothic Cathedral is a few miles from my house in a small town called Bryn Athyns. The town is almost all people from the church. They have their own schools, fire and police, and utilities.

A neighbor of mine who has several adopted children, have a son who they rescued from abuse from a Cherokee reservation. He married a cutie from Bryn Athyns. The ceremony was half Swedenborg and half Cherokee. The groom wore western boots, a nice bolo, and feathers to go along with his fresh Mohawk. The bride was in a traditional gown. They did all the normal christian like things and then the exchange of the meat basket, a Cherokee tradition. Quite a unique and cool wedding. Just try this in a Catholic church...Ha!

The reception was in their own social hall and was setup nicely. What my wife and I didn't know, was that they do not have the tradition of applause when the new married couple arrive. As they walked into the room, my wife and I got up and started clapping and hooting, while 85% of the crowd just turned and stared at us in disbelief wondering WTF we were clapping about.

I owned and operated a wedding video business for 13 years and have seen it all, but by far the most INTERESTING was I was privileged to film a native American (Mohawk) ceremony..Pretty wild with dancers painted and wearing animal heads, etc...Bride and groom dressed almost like Hollywood Indians but all authentic.

Besides the wedding which was awesome, at the reception, they had native dancers from around the world. Fire dancers, Polynesian, African, etc...VERY COOL.

That does sound cool. American Traditional weddings are quite boring.

Troublemakers!!! :P

This was decades ago. I think the strangest one for me was a wedding I was in (stupidest thing I've ever done). It was held in a grave yard. No, not the chapel attached to it, but the grave yard itself. It was a goth thing. Everything was mixed. I was part of the wedding party on the bride's side (a mix of guys and girls). Standing there in front of everyone was Ludacris. I don't know how I got talked into it, I guess because I'm a loyal SOB when it comes to friends and the bride is a friend. Fortunately, other friends were standing with me as well. That actually made sense to me since I was friends with the bride and hardly really knew the groom, but knew enough to know that the marriage wouldn't last. (All of us on the bride's side knew that....and we were right. Fortunately, she is happily married to another guy now, much more suitable). I don't remember the reception because I did not go but for a few minutes. The reception was pretty normal though from what I saw. The only other one not quite as weird was a wedding for some acquaintances. The bride and groom where in a psych-punk band and after the traditional normal ceremony - the reception was also traditional and normal.....except for the fact that the curtains were pulled back on the stage to reveal the band's gear and then they got up still in tux and gown and did 3 songs. There's no sight like seeing a bride in full wedding gear rocking out on electric guitar. Damn cool if you ask me.

I attended a Halloween party that was thrown by an older working associate. We all were required to wear costumes. Well, my associate and his "date" arrived at the party after we all were gathered dressed ... you guessed it, as a bride and groom. They were older and wealthier and it was their second marriage. They just wanted friends to share in the occasion with them - no gifts were brought. The wedding was performed that night and we all partied for the duration, in costume.

Another was a traditional Indian wedding, which was wierd for me but typical for their culture. It was also a great party with awesome food (vegetarian), beautiful costumes by the bride and groom, and a wealth of cultural information that I never would have been exposed to otherwise.

It wasn't bizarre, it was different; an Indian wedding (Native Canadian Indians). ...My girlfriend back then was half Indian (Dawn), and many of her friends are Indians. It was humbling, simple, and in a very lovely setting; surrounded by forests, mountains, lakes, rivers, and an ocean. ...Children of the sun and moon, we all are. :)

Oh OH...I have another...I videoed several Syrian and middle eastern weddings where the bride and groom are led in to the reception by belly dancers...THAT WAS COOL...
