Volume leveling

As someone mentioned here, Replay Gain is a feature that must be enabled (in the metadata) in order for it to work.
If a person is ripping a CD, software like dbPoweramp allows you to enable Replay Gain.
There are also software programs (like MP3TAG) that allow you to enable that feature.
Roon comes with a volume leveling feature that allows users to pick a preferred base volume to listen to all tracks. That feature works with your own music and music streamed through Roon from whatever source (Qobuz, Tidal). This is useful when listening to playlists with tracks recorded at different volumes. Some people like this feature; others do not bother with it.

JRiver has an option for this, you can scan your entire library and it will save it to the track's metadata. Seems to work reasonably well.

I just don't understand how Bryston with their "Manic Moose" app is able to do it and Lumin can't.

revisiting this thread.... September 2023, does Lumin now support ReplayGain at playback so at least local library tracks can play at similar volume?

No. At this time Lumin natively supports volume leveling in Spotify (audio normalization) only.

For local files or other streaming services, volume leveling can only be achieved via Roon.

With Leedh, Lumin could probably have the worlds best sounding use of replay gain.
