The Kingsmen recorded Louie Louie in Portland, Oregon at Northwestern, Inc., Motion Pictures and Recording in Portland, Oregon. I worked for Northwestern as a film grip back in the early 1970's and use to walk past the Kingsmen's Gold Record hanging on the wall in the hall near the studios. About three years ago the city of Portland erected a placque to honor the Kingsmen at the old location of Northwestern on what was then called Hooker Street, and is now named S.W. 13th Ave. My ex-wife also worked for Northwestern in the 70's as a film editor.
