The 300B's are truly a great sounding tube. While I truly wish them the best in their new endeavor I am still bothered by them leaving all the previous customers without a warranty that they paid for when the company went belly up.
Maybe this time will be better. We can only hope.

I don't think you can blame them for leaving all "their" previous customers without warranty. It is, after all, a new trading entity and not the same company as the old Elrog. Those customers who bought old Elrog tubes were effectively without warranty anyway, after Elrog went belly up. The new Elrog, under new owners, should not be expected to honour the debts of another business, unless it was specifically in the agreement when the rights to the company was sold.

To their credit, the new Elrog owners are trying to help the old Elrog customers ... to a degree.

If that is the case, then my understanding of the situation is incorrect. I should withdraw my remarks and apologize.

He does have a partner this time. (The money man).
Let's wish them well. Their products are welcome to the market and are sonically very good.
I personally will reserve my trust in the company until they prove themselves and their products to be reliable.

Thomas Mayer=old elrog
Thomas Mayer=new elrog
Still want to defend him?

is that correct?

i think the old elrog was founded and managed by dr. klaus schaffernicht.

now thomas mayer has control over the company. production and marketing.

I don't know the exact business arraingement between Dr Schaffernict and Thomas Mayer.
However on Thomas Mayers blog (Vinylsavor) concerning the release of the 300B's in 2014 he declares his involvement in the company.
Sorry that I don't know how to link to the article.
Perhaps someone with some first hand information could add some details. But Thomas's involvement in the original Elrog is clear.

Was interested in this too, so searched Thomas' website for "Elrog" and read every post (and there were many). As far as I could tell Thomas' only financial relationship was as a retailer of Elrog tubes. He also tested prototypes and was clearly a fan of their tubes (as many people were and are). But FWIW, I saw nothing to suggest any ownership interest in the company.

I think JadeDavid might be talking about this post by Thomas - related to "Elrog 300B is here". The quote in question "This can be regarded as a historic moment in tube history. The first 300B tube developed and manufactured in Germany. I am very proud to be part of this. When I first met Dr. Schaffernicht on the High End fair in Munich in 2013, I convinced him that a 300B tube would be the perfect next step to enhance the portfolio of his magnificent 211 and 845 triodes. Being a perfectionist, Dr. Schaffernicht would not give out any samples of this tube before he is 100% happy with it. It was hard to stay patient, but now I am holding them in my hands and I am happy to share this news with you."

The way that I read it is that Thomas convinced Dr. Schaffernicht to build 300B and his involvement in getting the tube to the market but I could be wrong.

Yes Shadowlight, that is the post that I tried to reference. Thanks.
It would be nice if someone with firsthand knowledge on the Elrog saga could chime in.
Upon looking into this further it appears that Thomas Mayer has made an offer to try and work with any warranty issues on the original tubes to the original purchasers.
Perhaps I have misjudged him.

Hi!

I just read this thread and registered to provide first hand information.
I met Dr. Schaffernicht founder of Elrog in 2013 and used and sold his tubes since then. I had no financial stake or partial ownership in Elrog. As has been mentioned, my involvement with the company (besides using and selling the tubes) was merely suggesting new types (the 300B) and reviewing early samples and helping with testing.

In June 2016 the company Elrog had to file for bankrupcy. I bought the assets of Elrog and founded a new company called Deutsche Elektronenröhren Manufaktur GmbH. Under this company I continue to produce the same tubes which continue to be Elrog branded. As of today Dr. Schaffernicht is not involved anymore.

Although legally the new company is not obliged to grant any warranty on tubes produced by the old company, I do accept valid warranty claims. Warranty its granted under these conditions:

- The claim is from the original buyer of the tubes.
- The tubes are still in their warranty period.
- The tubes have been bought from Elrog directly. If bought from a dealer the claim needs to be addressed to the seller and they can work out with me how to handle the claim.

Of course any tubes bought from the new company or from authorised dealers of Deutsche Elektronenröhren Manufaktur are under full warranty. Occasionally there are still tubes offered on ebay or otherwise unauthorised sellers. Such tubes are not warranted. Currently there are authorised dealers in North America (tubesusa.com), Hong Kong, Taiwan and China (Lebreton) and Singapore (liveacoustics.com.sg). Further distributors are in discussion.

Also worth mentioning: All the technical issues the 300B had up to end of 2015 have been solved and as of today I did not get any failed 300B tube anymore. Also general quality and vacuum have been improved and we will continue to introduce technical improvements.

I hope this helps to clarify the situation.

Best regards

Thomas
