In my garage waiting on an arm

Nice Frank...congrats....get yourself a second arm while waiting for your Elite. If he says June, plan for August. It was an eternity for me to get my Elite arm. Hopefully that won't be the case for you.

In my garage waiting on an arm

Congratulations Frank. That review of the AF2 in HiFi News is excellent. Here is how those measurements compare to your SME 30/12, also tested by HiFi News:

Speed: .005 vs .003
Wow/Flutter: .01/.02 vs .01/.02
Rumble: -73 vs. -75.7
Rumble through bearing: -74 vs. -76.9
Hum & Noise: -64.3 vs -66.9

The test results are extremely close, and probably not audible. They are both superb and I find it most interesting that both tables are belt driven and offer integrated suspension. I'll be very curious to read how you think the two tables compare in your system. I presume the arms will be different, one being the SME V-12 and the other the Graham Elite.

Have you considered setting up the AF2 with the V-12 arm and cartridge to conduct a direct comparison between just the two tables? The results might be very interesting.

Thanks Peter.

If I knew I was going to be waiting for a Graham arm for an extended period, I may have gotten the extra arm board for the back of the table. That's the only way I could put the V12 on the AF2. Max length is 10" on the side.

I'm having second thoughts about changing out tables right now. Everything is sounding so good I don't see the point. The ARC REF 10s are finally broken in and the addition of the Stillpoints Apertures has my head spinning. I've been listening constantly!

I'll definitely hold on to the 30/12 for a while to make sure the AF2 is a superior table. I'm not sure I can take it if this thing gets any better.

Yes, I had not thought about the special SME armboard for the AF2. I do think the Elite may mount to the SME armboard on the 30/12. Perhaps you could compare both tables using the Elite arm and Goldfinger cartridge. Either way, I'm sure they both sound excellent. Glad to read that your system is sounding so good these days.

Could you post a photo of the new treatments. The one that I have seen of your room looked a bit like a forest with all of the Tubetraps. Are those remaining in addition to the Apertures, or do the Apertures replace some of the Tubetraps. Great stuff.

The forest is still there :D I took out one stack of 16" round tube traps from the middle behind the speakers and installed the Apertures. I've played with the tube traps many times over the years. Taking them out, turning them from diffuse to absorb, somewhere in between. I can't see taking the tube traps out. They're so flexible in what they can do in the room and to the soundstage.
The traps in the corners (black) behind the speakers are huge and very heavy. I think they're 20" round. I can't lift them by myself but very effective for bass control.

Just beautiful, Frank. I just noticed how similar the driver complement and scale of your speakers are to the Magico M Project. Your system must sound fantastic. Nice room, too.

Great room, well done Frank. I too thought they were M Projects until Peter mentioned it.

The Fenice is quite a bit more driver wise. Not seen too obviously are the large side firing woofers. There are also rear firing drivers out back. :)

Frank, you should be very proud of your room and what you have accomplished there. Must have taken a lot of thought and effort.

You your room how far apart are the drivers and how far back are your ears from the plane of the drivers?

Nice job!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

Le Roy, drivers are 10' center to center and it's 11' 8" to my ears

Wow Frank, I never thought you would move past the SME 30/12. I will be very interested to hear your thoughts on how these two compare. I see also you went back to a Ref 10 phono. I know you love that ARC stuff. Really impressive!!
