I was wondering if anyone has heard the original Extremas? I have a line on a nice pair if I want them. I’m intrigued by the brand when Franco owned them. I would love to hear your opinions about them. How would they stand up to today’s speaker technology? What speakers manufactured today would beat them out in the $8,000 to $10,000 range? I understand they need gobs of power. Thanks for any insights you might have.

I have a friend who owns the Extrema's. They are an excellent speaker, which I think can hold its own today. They do need a massive amount of power upstream to come alive, and they require very careful positioning in the room. I would be hard pressed to come up with any speakers in the $8-10K range that can play with them. Question is whether you are buying an Extrema for its current price, and then having to maybe double or triple that price to buy an amp that can drive them?

Wondering if my MasterSound PF100 monoblocks would be enough power for them? Each weighs 110 pounds with huge transformers, has four 845 output tubes and puts out 120 watts of tube power?

Friend uses a pair of Parasound mono blocks that put out 400 w/ch! Probably depends on how big your room is and how loud you like to listen, but my friend doesn't listen that loud..and he has a very small room. If you can try the Extrema's first with your amp, that would be ideal. The Mastersound amps could be a good match, but I couldn't tell you.
