Shunyata Cable Adapters - any experience?

I just purchased a couple used Anaconda Zitrons from a buddy. These will provide power to my amp and to a Triton. I have a couple 15amp python zitrons that I would like to use between the Triton and the ARC Ref5SE and the REF Phono2SE, but of course those are 20 amp sockets.

So, does anyone have any experience with the Shunyata adapters? (C14-C19)

The price to re-terminate the Pythons is prohibitive. And buying/selling is dear as well. I'd prefer to spend the $$ to get the dedicated lines installed.

I imagine in the future I'd like to have Ananconda's full loom, but if those little adapters won't get in the way I'd likely use them for a time until I could make a change.

Shunyata reports "very little to almost no loss"... and I imagine one would be hard pressed to hear it, but then again???

I've never used the Shunyata adapters but I have used with pretty good success the Voodoo adapters. They look identical, although I'm sure they aren't.

Hi Bob,

There is no such thing as an entirely transparent (consequence-less) adaptor, so anyone promising that would not be truthful. Having said that, there are components where they may have extremely little, or in some cases, no discernible effect. Some of this will be variable and fall on the listener's critical nature and on system resolution.

The least problematic applications for adaptors would be for line-level or source components. You are more likely to hear some loss when using adaptors with amps or on power distributors-to-the-wall connections, especially those that support a number of components. Heavy peak-current transfer is the enemy of any adaptor, so that's the only real caveat from our perspective.

If your applications are for line-level/sources then I see no significant down-side. We build our adaptors by hand; they are cryo'd and use the most robust, heavy-gauge contacts available. I've also heard from customers that have had good experience with Voodoo adaptors, so you have choices.

Best regards,

Hi Grant, very nice of you to chime in. I will be using the adapters as you describe.

There was another thread recently about whether or not a power cord upgrade would make an audible difference on a turntable motor. I know Brinkman makes a tube power supply they claim will improve sonics of the table. Now I know most folks who consider themselves critical thinkers would scratch their heads with that claim; but in the case of a Shunyata cable supplying juice to a turntable?

Based on discussions we have had in the past, I am going to assume you would argue reducing noise between components is always a good idea and your cables/system is good for doing that. Overall, the system becomes quieter, which is where the sonic benefit would come from. Am I understanding correctly? (I am planning to use a cobra zitron to feed the TT.)

The improvements gained by using a better turntable-motor power cord are likely the result of reducing the noise-radiation (EMI) that surrounds the motor --and its power cord. Power supply and motor noise can affect components/cables that are nearby.

Based on feedback from many customers, I'd recommend a shielded power cord there, such as a Venom 3 or 3s. Wire gauge is not at issue on the motor and shielded power cords have been the most talked about in terms of consistent improvement. In terms of cost and quality, I generally recommend going big with the main listening sources, the amp/s and the power-distributor. Pre-amps are (generally) not high-draw or high-noise components so if on a budget I recommend cutting a corner there. When it comes to ancillaries like the motor, I recommend any shielded power cord first. I think the Cobra'd be spending too much for the benefit and its possible the shielded cord would be better.

If I can be of more specific help, feel free to call or e-mail, Bob.

Best regards,

Grant
