I just started to change the power cords one by one and was wonder should I go with shorter length than 2 m .

I've been told :

First, you really want to get the 2.0m even if you need less. They provide a marked improvement due to the gears ability to look back approx 6' on the power line.

This is why power cords can even make a difference in the first place. Simply coil the excess cable in a circle;

What do you guys think ?

I've run my own tests with short (as in 3 feet) PC's vs standard (6 feet) and I didn't hear any damn difference, but, I still always get at least 6 feet now just for convenience of not having to stretch the cord.

Paul, I'd suggest that you check with the power cable manufacturer for their recommendations on minimum length. I recall that Wireworld has recommended 2 meters as a minimum for their power cables, since they are designed to be capacitive and that is the minimum length to achieve the desired electrical effect. Nordost does not recommended anything shorter than 1.5 meters with their power cables. So it varies depending upon the cable manufacturer's design characteristics.

I just ordered 1m Nordost V2 power cords. Nordost is big on 2m power cords and 4m interconnects. This a demo order and I expected them to mention about the 1m instead of 2m but they did not. I do have a customer that has really good ears and I sent her a 1m and a 2m power cord from Nordost. I never mentioned the length recommendation but she emailed me a new order and told me not to send her anymore 2 m PC's. She preferred the 1 meter over the 2m . I guess there is a difference but a matter of taste on what you prefer.

Thanks guys. Currently I have 5 WW P/C without having an issue. Now I got this big Anaconda P/C it just takes too much space.

I was wonder is it really necessary to put 2 m P/C on CD player and Pre amp to my power plant coz they will be all tangled.

I've always been told that 5-6 ft range (2m) is ideally is best, but if you need a shorter one or longer one it's not like it's a day and night difference.

The one thing about a non-standard length is the lack of resale value. For this reason alone, it's worth staying with the 5-6 ft.

I would imagine if a specific power cord featured it's own "LC" for for noise filtering.. that the length of said cord would have an affect on the filtering and it's overall performance.

In my own case, I've been rolling-my-own for awhile now and based on where my own power distribution device is (Furman) all of my cables end up approx 1.5M in length.

I've read that too from someone somewhere before.

What is the ideal distance your house should be from the main power grid of the nearest city you live from?

If I ever heard BS, this is it.

Thats great, now please explain from an experienced point of view why. For me, I've done the generic cable & the after market uber expensive comparison & have found the after market one was a totally different sound that I liked better, as in the presentation was very much more realistic. I must add that I did & do have a system that is capable of revealing such changes.
"...the gears ability to look back approximately six feet down the power line."

I like my gear to don't look back at all. :D

Bob, sharing your belief is not confrontational, it's why we're here. What I'm saying is it would be better than buzzing around like a blue ass fly while carrying on like an aeroplane top dresser & not subscribing

I think of the length of cord from the amp to the end of the cord as the first six feet, not the last six feet (if your PC is 2.0m long of course). Doesn't it make sense to have that cable allow your amp to get the best, cleanest power it can?

Well, some of us hear a difference/improvement and some don't. Maybe that's the resolving power of your system, maybe it's the sensitivity of your equipment, or the quality of your power supply, or perhaps it's just your firm beliefs on the subject. But please, lets not start that debate in this thread. It generally goes nowhere positive.

As for length. Isn't longer always better? :exciting:

Seriously, if you have the space, go with a standard length or longer cord. If your rack (like mine) is tight and up against a wall there just may not be space to accommodate that extra length. Yes, resale should always be a concern for us neurotic audio swapping types.

+1 :D

i always try to buy the perfect size for the fit more than the recommended length. after all arent 2m more expensive than 1m ,and arent cable companies in it for the enormous profit they already make off cables? all my cables ,ic's and pc's are 1m except i needed longer to go from pre to amps. that one is 1.5m. i dont see the point in having all that extra cable sitting back there coiled up. plus i try to not make any cables touch other cables, which would be much harder with 2m. after all if i had a cable company id recommend 3m or longer. lol!!!
