I took delivery yesterday of my dual chassis Pink Faun server. Pink Faun is not a household name in this country. When presented with their server solution by Mike at Suncoast Audio, I was impressed by the thought that went into their product and the continuing engineering activity they have undertaken aimed at making it progressively better.

The set up was pretty straight forward. One chassis takes care of all the "housekeeping" functions and the other performs all the audio related tasks. The interconnections are simple - Ethernet and power into one chassis, Ethernet between chassis, power into the second chassis and in my case USB out to a ProISL input on my MSB Cascade DAC. The units now interface directly with Roon at the OS level and according to Jorge at Pink Faun, vastly improve the sonics which many people believe were less than optimal.

Getting my files copied onto the internal SSD was an easy task as the servers have a file management function activated by their web based user interface. Getting up and running took only minutes as I had very competent help from Mike Malley from Suncoast and Jorge via FaceTime direct from home base in the Netherlands to my music room.

Before integrating the server, I was running my system using a Roon core on my office iMac and a portable SSD. I expect this new arrangement will be a vast improvement. I have the units burning in and will report on the changes in about a week. I have to say that even with my less than optimal file storage solution the MSB Cascade was providing exemplary digital sound that was saturated, articulate and lively. The soundstage and imaging were as good as any I have heard. Burn in took a while but we are now in a state where my best files are jaw dropping.

More to come.

Congrats Eric! I recently listened to the PF Dual Ultra at Clarysis showroom in Switzerland. It is quite a server/streamer!

Nice write-up, Eric. Just a question: is there a way to make a connection '"chassis ground" on the Pink Faun, etc., a ground terminal on the rear panel, or similar?

Puma

No there is not. I have a CAD grounding system so it would have been nice. However, after spending an hour or so in critical listening today, I honestly don't think I'm missing it. Black Hole darkness for all good recordings e.g. Chesky, Mapleshade, Opus 3, PS Audio Octave and the best from Qobuz. The PF engineers must have done a great job internally to the units. Here is a screenshot from a Youtube video of the backs of the units. With the exception of the USB interface, they are identical

I know this brand for a long time, and these streamers are amazing. First time I saw them was at the show where my current speakers where demonstrated and I was very impressed by the sound; at that demo my speakers where powered by a Pink Faun amp, which is not for sale anymore.

This does not mean I don't follow them: these streamers are a bit out of my budget, however, they have very nice computer separate output cards for sale with oxco clocks, which are on my wish list for my perfect build audio computer; however is the perfect computer streamer this Pink Faun streamer? In my opinion they belong to the absolutely top segment.
