Nikon FX?

...as an after Christmas Christmas present to myself, I decided to replace my Nikon D7000 which I've used and loved for a couple years now.

temptation was to just do a 7100 and be done. At the last minute the D610 popped on my radar and I had a look at it.
Looks like the 610 was a "fix" for the 600 which appears to have had severe shutter debris problems...although many reported no problems also.

Anyway, I'm about to pull the trigger on a 610 with 24X85 lens. Next issue will be the useability of my Nikon DX Lenses. (I only have 3, so it's not like I've got thousands invested in them)

Anyone else move from Nikon DX to FX?
 
Having the full frame sensor is a wonderful thing. We use plenty of Nikons at work and I love the photos from the FX cameras better, especially when the lenses are the better glass variety.
 
Being a long time Nikonian, I am really interested in the recently announced Nikon Df. It is classic vs modern tech. It's very similar to the old F/F3/FM series in feel and build, but has the internals of the current FX digitals.

Sadly, I have not been into photography as much in the past ten years or so. I still have a mint Nikon FG from my college days. Only used it for a a single photography class, and it has been back in the box ever since. I have a Nikon D1 as well, though it has a few more shutter miles on it.

I am really looking to get back into it this year, but we'll see what takes priority in my spending. ;)

yea that Nikon Df looks amazing, and appears to be very well received. I considered it for just a moment, but it's just a bit more $$ than I wanted to spend.
 
In my office I use a Nikon DX camera for macrophotography, but for personal use, I use FX cameras. The downside of the FX sensor cameras is their increased size and weight, increased camera cost and increased lens size, weight and cost. The size and weight can be very considerable for a small person [many women] to carry around.
 
My brother has a Nikon D5100, and it's images are pretty stellar. He uses a few lenses, but the AF-S DX VR Nikkor 55-300mm 4.5-5.6G ED is his workhorse.

I always refer to Digital Photography Review to check out reviews, comparisons, and sample images. It's a good resource when shopping for all things photography.

my D7000 is basically too big, my canon S95 is the right size. if I could ever get pix out of the S95 that look like the D7000, I'd be happy. I guess it's getting closer and closer these days. ..but as of today I'm still using iPhone, S95 and DSLR... iPhone/S95 for convenience, DSLR for quality. OBTW, I did pull the trigger on the D610....now if I only had and eye for great photography I'd be dangerous.... kinda the same situation with my nice Guitar, if only I could play it. :) but that's another story....

Definitely a great site...for all things photog related...and that's a wonderful combo (5100/55-300) I use the 18-200VR 90% of the time.

unfortunately for me, :afraid: it takes far more than an excellent camera to get great shots. :panic:
