And you bet your axe that it has a manually adjustable Parametric EQ of the highest order and for all the thirteen channels, including the two subwoofers. ...And top bass management.

I'm going to keep a close eye on this; kind of stuff that I always do. ...And I always loved Yamaha.
 
11.2? Geez, I haven't even moved up to 7.2 yet!:rolleyes:

Stereophile gave it a good review this month. I'm surprised to see that it has S-VHS inputs--I wish my Marantz 8801 had them, as I have a few pieces of gear with that type of output.
 
Yes, Kalman Rubinson mentioned it recently. The review is not online yet though (Yamaha Aventage CX-A5000 SSP).

S-VHS, really John? ...Last time I used that connection was back in 1997 - seventeen years ago!
You still have some S-VHS tape decks? ...Laser Disc player?

Really, Bob! I have a Hi-8 player, a video camera, and a DVD-R, all of which use S-VHS.

Thing is this though: With Audyssey DSX front Width and Height channels the information in them channels sometimes spilled from the center channel info, and from the front mains L & R channels, and even from the Side surrounds with many recordings. And it simply doesn't sound natural and realistic anymore.
The discrete 'directionality' becomes fuzzy, echoish, unrealistic, perturbed, annoying, with many Blu-ray Movies.
And for Music, just forget it!

So, it's a hit and miss, depending of the material content from the original recording (movies).
You have to constantly/manually adjust some parameters for each Blu-ray movie, including channel levels, to minimize the detrimental effects.

At the end I always use 7.2 (or 5.2) because I want to enjoy my movies and not 'finicking' around with each one of them so that I'm distracted and not properly/totally immersed in the natural surround sound experience.

I've been experimenting with surround sound for years and years, and when you go beyond a certain indiscreet sound standard it is a constant manual manipulation for each music and movie recording.

I've played with Yamaha DSP and their sophisticated parametric equalizers, and by ear alone it is extremely demanding in adjusting the parameters from one recording to another one basis.

For now I spent enough time with Audyssey MultEQ XT32 (did a lot of mic measurements) that I'm settled enough. ...Surround sound speaking wise. ...And blending my ears between my mains and subs.

But I'm always reading about other and better systems. ...Datasat, Acourate, and Dirac Live.
And someday I'll experiment with one of them programs, with measurements, and the help of a PC.
...When the time and passion is right. But for now I remain active in learning from the pros who have been experimenting with most of them. It is a fascinating surrounding world, another higher plateau of sound, even higher than plain hi-fi stereo.

But don't get me wrong, I'm still a stereo man. ...Just inclined into more 'submersive' sound's submission. :)
 
I do like this thing! Is it a full receiver or just a preamp? I will have a few questions upon further study though. It sits outside my budget, but if I can get a good deal on it and it's a receiver it may come into line with my budget. I think I considered it for my list, but given the price, I had to cross it off. However, recently re-thinking that.

Oh, not going to happen then. I'll just find a A/V receiver with as many of the same features as the SSP and then a more powerful amp to hook into it (probably a 2-channel).
