Hello folks,

I received my new speakers a few weeks ago.
The Jean Maurer 370F. ( 3 way. 70 liters ).
They are pretty efficient at 92.5 dB. But their impedance is rated rather low at 3 ohms.
Designed and built in Switzerland.
Bass driver : fully made in house. 24 cm. Paper.
Mids and Treble : Soft domes made outbound on Maurer specs and heavily modified in house.
I am still learning to acclimate to this new sound.
I like them a lot.
They are rather small. Probably about the size of a pair of Wilson Sophia.
They weigh about 60 kgs each. Each side of the cabinet is sand filled, including the front baffle. As a result the speakers inputs are underneath the cabinet, right in the center. There is a french dealer building an extender to put on the rear so you can have access more easily to the connectors.
They use a very special filter with extreme steep slopes. Actually, it seems that Jean Maurer is the only one in the world able to build such filters.
They need at least 100 hours of break in. I must be there now.
Their main characteristics ? :
- extreme neutrality. The cabinets are completely inert like Wilsons / Magico…. and the frequency response seems very flat. Absolutely no bump anywhere. They do not make anything “nicer” than what is on the record, or worse.
They do not try to always “impress” the listener. They present the music as it is, drawing your attention to the performance more than themselves.
The magic of this neutrality is that although “poor” recordings sound “poor”, they are still more enjoyable than any other speaker I heard. I do not understand how Jean Maurer does that. Kind of a mystery to me. One explanation is that most speakers I had until now had some imbalance somewhere, and this defect is amplified in already poor recordings. The 370F is so clean and neutral that it gets you deep in the music more than distracted by technical artifacts of the recordings.
But there may an other explanation.
- cleanliness and speed : equal to the best ESL I heard.
- extreme resolution and details. Transparency is among the very best I heard, no matter the price range.
- bass extension and color is incredible for the size of the speaker
- able to play at very high SPLs without never getting agressive.
- Mids seem very very close to the best mids I ever heard ( Harbeth 40.1 ), thanks to big soft dome driver. Too early to say if it is at the same level of the Harbeth or not.
Voices sound extremely natural and clean. And have the right dimension. The mouths of the singers do not measure 4 feets…. :)
- Presence and weight of the notes : depend mostly on the recording. They can sound “light” on some recordings, and very organic and full on others.

One downside : they seem to start to be very involving at a rather higher volume than what I am used to. But this may be due to the Ongaku amp. With the Nagra Classic Amp, I get a bit more presence and excitement at low volume.
And it depends also mostly on the recording.
The other side of this is that at high volume, they sing like very few speakers I heard and they stay completely “in control”.

To summarize, their sound is pretty unique and does not relate to any other speaker I owned.
I received last week the Thrax importer for Israel and administrator of the Facebook group “ High End Audio Israel”. He listened to them for about 2 hours. He was so impressed by their sound that he changes the cover of the group to my system.
He stated in hebrew “ There are some things that you must listen to in order to understand. Splendid my friend”.
He told me that he would like to become their distributor in Israel.

They are sold direct by Jean Maurer, with the help or not of a distributor in some countries.
I will receive my other pair ordered for my second system.
The waiting time for a pair can be rather long. I waited for mine almost one year. But this was due to Covid limitations. It seems that the actual waiting time would be closer to 4 to 6 months.
For the ones interested, you will find a detailed information on the website. The making video of the former model ( 370 E) shows very well the stunning build quality and attention to detail which is almost the standard in the Swiss industry.
There are not many people anywhere now that keep doing their work with conscience a s attention to details imho.
If you contact Jean Maurer for more informations, tell him that we are friends ( my full name is Jerome Wanono ) because he receives a lot of enquiries lately. His speakers are getting more and more popular. Which is funny because Jean Maurer SA was founded before Nagra. ;)
I talked a lot with him and we became almost friends so you may get a faster answer by stating my name in your email.
You are very welcome in my home in Paris if you would like to listen to them.
Thanks for reading.

Sorry to have missed this Jerome. Beautiful setup. Any updates on the speakers?

Great speakers and above all fantastic people (family) behind. I've been to their factory many times as they are 15min drive away from my house. All written above is true and funny thing is that these speakers are produced in the same form and shape for the last few decades and just being improved over time hence designations A, B, C, D, E, F...
Very happy and glad they are being more noticed and appreciated for what they can do.
