I have had these speaker cables for 3 weeks. After moving my amp to a new location I had to deal with going from 6 ft to 16 ft cables. I did not know what I wanted but did not want to blow the bank if possible. I was offered Zensati at close to cost but at 16 ft it was still outrageously expensive. I purchased some LAT ref. 3000 biwire and lived with that for several months. IN the past I had upper midlevel MIT, Cardas, and silent source. I also borrowed a friends Nordost Valhalla but it clearly was not a good mix for my cr-1 speakers or electronics.

About 6 weeks ago an audiophile friend had gone thru a similar search for new speaker cables and had much more money to spend but ended up after a rather lengthy attempy to tame his Q5 tweeters ended up with MG audio design speaker planus III cables. They offer a free return 30 day in home demo period.

I spoke twice with owner Greg Graff and decided on single length cables with jumpers. He burned in both for 5 days before shipping. Our discussion centered on differences of biwiring, vs jumpers vs. longer lengths and possible unequal lengths. I ended up with a 8ft left speaker cable and a 16 foot right speaker cable and two sets of 7.5 inch jumpers. Both jumpers and cables r terminated with rhodium on speaker and woofer jumper and silver for tweeter jumper and amp binding posts.

I played with reversing the cables and the voicing of my speakers definitely changed. I do prefer the manufacturers recommendations. The cables look like wider versions of Nordost but a totally different sound. Low capacitance, Teflon insulation, ultra thin copper foil design. Unlike their top of the line silver folied based cable, the Planus III runs approx. $100 per foot plus a 300 termination fee.

The sound for my system was very very nice. Bad recordings especially female vocals really seemed less strident. Bass was tight and soundstage was very open. I tried my old silent source jumpers just to see what happened and it just did not help but somewhat blur or muddy bass speed and soundstage. Over the last week soundstage has widened even more. No ill effects at all with uneven speaker cable lengths. Love light weight cables as MIT boxes were putting tension on my elevated speaker binding posts. Sonically I am extremely happy and really enjoy their overall effect on my highs and midrange. Bass is as fast as can b with no negative effects on my system. Will I try the whole loom don't know and I do love my AZ absolute copper IC. I am extremely happy after my comparative evaluations with these cables. I truly wonder if my ears could notice the difference with the Zensati. At this point in time don't care and I am really enjoying my system.

Congratulations Nick.

I think I need to give these a try. Another friend recommended these to me and I trust his ears as well.

Nick, great stuff. It's always a warm fuzzy when we hit a home run with a new addition to the system. I like the look of these cables, I see Greg is a member here too.

I think he joined after I purchased. BTW nice but I have zero business or financial relationship with Mr. Graff. He is just another true audiophile and nice man.

First, I want to thank Nick for writing about his experience with our speaker cable and for the compliments. I did join after Nick suggested it was a forum I might find interesting. It has been a pleasure to be part of Audioshark and I hope my previous posts have been useful for some at least. Nick is correct in one thing- I am a true audiophile in the sense of loving music. To me the equipment is a means to an end, not an end in and of itself. Regarding the part about me being a nice man, thanks for the compliment but I know a few former coworkers who might quibble with that statement:D

I am a competitor and friend of Greg Graff... His interconnects & speaker cables are very, very good & "punch" way above their price point. Greg is truly an audiophile with a good ear... Despite what he says, he's a great guy as well...

My $0.02,
Pete

Thanks Pete, it was good to see you at RMAF. I hope you are doing well. It was very kind of you to donate one of your exceptional power cords to raise money for someone having medical problems. That was a very kind thing to do. See you again sometime.

MG Audio's new Top of the line:

Planus IIIAG Speaker Cable

"In terms audiophiles like to use, Planus III AG does everything better than Planus III. The soundstage is wider, deeper and more three-dimensional. The dynamic shading is more evident, with more impact on dynamic passages. It better captures both the leading edge and decay of the fundamentals and overtones. One gets a better sense of pace and timing. The music comes from a blacker background and the retrieval of detail is just stunning -- without any glare or brightness."
