McIntosh RS100 - wireless loudspeaker

My first thought was it is just a bad joke. But it seems the product is real. The Italians are selling out the McIntosh brand ...

I'm speechless. What's with all these lifestyle products from McIntosh?

Even as a boy from Binghamton I was left scratching my head on this one.... it was like, really..... seriously.... but my new home town company is going in the opposite direction (I now live on Central Coast California and Wyred 4 Sound is right here... I was at their office today)!!!!

I think this was on the drawing board before the company sale and the whole lifestyle concept would have added to the brand's goodwill on the balance sheet.

IMO, the McIntosh brand has now been prostituted. I just hope they don't end up trashing the brand with garbage product in years to come. Almost everything that has been released in the last couple of years has either been souped and rebadged or is of lessor grade craftsmanship. Will we ever see the jewels of McIntosh as mirrored in the 1000 series again?

There are only a couple of brands that have this space cornered IMO only because of REAL innovation. Devialet Phantom and Kii Audio Three. I like both. I would probably put my money on KII first for performance.

You could say on this one that the chicken has come home to roost as McIntosh historically have never been one to buy into the whole cable argument thing!

I wish I had better things to say about the direction of McIntosh as I have half a tonne of the stuff sitting in front of me....

Steve.......I hear you. I have three stereo systems and one home theater system that are deeply vested in McIntosh. My personal satisfaction and pride comes from knowing the components I own are a reflection of McIntosh's best efforts. In my opinion, their forte has always been preamplifiers and power amplifiers. I am completely satisfied and proud of the components I own but I find myself disillusioned with their attempt to rebrand themselves as a luxury lifestyle audio manufacturer. This has been going on for the last decade. For me, the RS100 is a classic example of heading in the wrong direction. I have similar feelings about their mini table top systems with mini speakers, headphone amplifier, headphones, and branded cables.

Obviously I have no financial interest in McIntosh other than the gear I own, so I am simply an observer to the present direction of the company. I understand the audio business is competitive and ruthless. Each company is trying to get their piece of a shrinking pie, so I guess it isn't difficult to realize why a company looks for fresh revenue streams. What pleases me is I already own the best the company offers so their newest toy components are amusing but don't generate a buying impulse for me. I won't be selling the McIntosh gear I own but considering their present direction it seems unlikely I will purchase anything new from them in the future. That's a shame because I have owned and purchased much McIntosh gear since 1968.
