I have enjoyed this system for years with sacd’s and cd’s but taking the leap to records. A friend gave me a minty pioneer PL-530. I new to the phono pre amp thing and don’t want to screw anything up. The c11 does have phone rca input jacks which leads me to believe that I don’t need a preamp. Any help would be appreciated, kyle.

My pleasure.

More knowledgeable phono guys should chime in soon and help with your questions.

Kyle - it likely has a MM phono input. Make sure your cart is Moving Magnet (MM) and you’re good to go.

I’m guessing you cannot post pictures here to show the connections in the back. I can very faintly hear the album and I have read that is a symptom of not having a pre amp. The rca input clearly reads low level inputs phono 1. Sorry but what is “cart”?

What cartridge was on the Pioneer you were given? According to the manual the phono input should have 60 db gain so more than enough for any MM cartridge. Looking at the back of the C11 the TT goes into the 4th set of jacks from the right and the selector on the front to Phono 1.

You can post pictures but I think it requires a minimal of 10 posts first???

It sounds like you might have a Moving Coil (MC) cartridge instead of a Moving Magnet (MM). Definitely would be good to know what cartridge is on the Pioneer table. Most pre-amps with built in phono sections are equipped to handle MM but not MC. Fairly certainly the older McIntosh would be only MM.
