Lumin has confirmed that greater sonic benefits are derived from turning off the digital outputs which are not in use on the U1.

Mike...If you are running multiple DACS, can these settings be triggered or macroed by a remote code?

Are you running Siltech out of this box and if so what is your poison?

Steve - all digital outputs are always on - unless turned off. Most people like the dual USB outputs of the U1 which can be used as input (storage) or output (DAC).

I'm using my WW PLAT 7 USB right now. I want the Siltech USB.

Note:

In order for a USB DAC to be compatible with Lumin U1, the basic requirement is that it has to be Linux compatible without requiring custom drivers.

About Lumin U1 support of DSD128:

On Lumin U1 DSD128 works if and only if U1 is connected to a USB DAC, and that USB DAC supports DSD128.

If U1 is intended to be connected to a non-USB DAC, or a USB DAC that does not support DSD128, please turn on the Resampling feature in Lumin app, and resample DSD128 to DSD64 or PCM 176.4kHz.

Regarding the custom driver part, I've made a beta U1 firmware that integrates the Mytek driver, but I cannot say Mytek is supported at this point. It is worthwhile to point out that the driver package includes a known issues document:

I am looking for a one box solution. My current setup is Mac mini > Devialet 250 > Belden Iconoclast speaker cables > Magico V2 speakers. Has anyone compared the Lumin U1 to the Aurender N10? I was very interested in the U1 after reading all the reviews about the S1. My nearest Lumin dealer is 2.5 hours away and doesn't have a U1 yet but has suggested that I come and listen to the digital output on the A1 he has that is connect to a Devialet, to get an idea of the Lumin "sound", and see the app. I have tried the Aurender N100H, as that is all that is available in my immediate area. The conductor app was very user friendly and responsive.

Welcome drdkey. I have both the N10 and U1. I sent you a PM with my thoughts. Bottom-line: both are great. Both have amazing apps. Both are solid metal pieces and not plastic. Both companies are great and stand behind their products with amazing support. Comes down to: Do you want a NAS or do you prefer internal storage?

Mike - How is the U1 performing?

The U1 with the Berkeley is working flawlessly Mike. Sounds very sweet.

I put the S1 back in the system just last night for fun. Man it's so good as well

My Lampi arrives Monday I think.

Great Mike! Can't wait to hear it with your Avangartes when I visit in late May.

Just received my new used Lumin U1. Thanks joeinid...it showed up a day early!

I am a little confused trying to get things set up. I am using a USB WD 3TB hard drive until I get a QNAP NAS and/or the L1. I cannot find any instructions on the internet or on Lumin site as to how to use a USB drive with the Lumin products.

I have the USB drive connected to the Lumin. The USB drive is formatted in ExFat. When I turn on the Lumin app in my Pixel C I click on Lumin-U1 USB Music Server. That brings up a folder that says EFI but has nothing in it. On my hard drive: Artists > Albums > Songs and Album Art

How am I supposed to arrange a USB hard drive so that the Lumin can use the files?

Other question is so is how to load entire album into the playlist? Or do you have to load songs one at a time?

The sound is really exceptional and I am soooo please to not be messing with PC or Mac playback! I just need to figure out the interface.

Christopher

According to Lumin, the USB hard disk (Single-partition FAT32, NTFS and EXT2/3 only)

Lumin does not support exFAT. Please backup your data and format it as NTFS.

To add a whole album, please use Lumin app to tap and hold an album art, then tap the Play Now button.

If you intend to buy L1, there's a choice of 2TB or 5TB. To put music into the L1 simply copy music to it as a USB HDD (in FAT32 or NTFS format). If you intend to buy a QNAP, check out TS-253B, TS-453Bmini with 4GB RAM or above, the older but cheaper A versions, or the older fanless model(s), and see if they meet your needs.

Thanks all...and thanks Joe for a really nice transaction. Couldn't have been better.

I am having trouble with the app. I am using my Pixel C and it is a little buggy. I drops connection and the app closes periodically. But I figure I am getting an Ipad anyway.

The Android app is working well enough except I can't seem to get an full album to load. I am only trying right now with Tidal as I haven't got my HD reformatted yet. It works on my wife's Ipad.

When I hold my finger on the album art a small window opens up. It has album name, artist, date and add to favorites. Along the top are 4 boxes with what look like play button with lines under it, lines with play button in the middle, lines with button on the bottom and play with lines crossed out. It obviously looks like the first button will play and load files. But when I tap it nothing happens. I have tried repeatedly and the little window goes away and no songs load.

When I use my wife's Ipad and hold my finger on the album art a different window opens and with five little boxes and I see the correct button to use. '

So I guess you guys are just trying to sort of the wild world of Android. If you have a suggestion that would be great. Other wise I am using my MacBook Pro for Roon. I love using this Mac this way since I am on the computer so much....very nice.

Thanks for the suggestions Peter. Actually in a few weeks I am getting a new QNAP. The hotrod TS-877. AMD Ryzen 1700 24TB with 16gb. I am using it for 4K streaming so I will be able to do many things in the house. I am giving up JRiver for movie playback and going to give Plex at try.

Peter do you think the L1 sounds better than using a well sorted NAS? I mean a NAS with things like the AQVOX or optical fiber?

Since you're using Roon, please use Roon Remote app on Android. Alternatively, if you experience some issue with the Lumin Android app and you don't have an iPad yet, please try Linn Kazoo app or Bubble DS Next app.

L1 is meant to be fanless, zero-configuration and easier to use than NAS, although some people have reported a sound quality improvement compared to typical NAS. If you use a NAS, you'd need to install the freeware MinimServer. I believe doing Ethernet network isolation using fiber media converter (FMC such as TP-Link MC210CS) with LPS (for the Lumin-side unit) should also help with the sound quality.

Which input of Golden Gate 2 are you using? USB or AES?
