Lumin T2 settings

I have had my Lumin T2 for about 4 months. It is hooked up to my Anthem 1120 receiver and I am using a Sim 330A amp to power my L-R Paradigm 85F speakers with two Paradigm 1000SW subs. The Lumin is connected to the 1120 with good quality RCA cables

I just was never blown away by the sound, the bass was never right. It sounded good but not what I had expected for the money.

A few days ago I changed the setting on the Lumin to Analog Audio Re-sampling from on to custom and I am using the custom defaults

The change to custom has been good. The bass now sounds perfect, the soundstage is more open, music has more of a live sound. My family all noticed the change.

I really have no idea what turning analog audio re-sampling to custom does but it made a huge difference.

Is it possible that before the Lumin was using the DAC from the Anthem 1120 receiver and now it is using the Lumin Dac as it was meant to?
I have no idea how to set the custom settings. The default is native for everything but not sure if this is correct. I would say the detail is really good, bass and drums seem good, but the music is a little bright sounding. Thanks

Why not try connecting the Lumin T2 direct to your amp and see how it sounds? By taking the Anthem completely out of the chain this will unleash the full potential of the T2 and I wouldn't mind betting it will be a lot better than what you are hearing now.

Of course it won't be a long term solution for you, you'd need to add something like a pre-amp or integrated so you didn't have to go through the Anthem, but I also have a Lumin streamer and I would never consider running it through my AVR.

Agree with post #2. Please turn the Lumin volume to a very low level before you play anything.

Since you are using custom resampling, why not try upsampling to DSD - and maybe also try upsampling the PCM Output Bit Depth to 24 bit? You might end up liking what you hear even more. Good luck!

Thanks for the comments. If I plug the Lumin directly into my Sim amp wouldn’t I lose my subs which are connected to Anthem receiver? Would I have to swap cables when I listen to Home Theater?
I want to try the unsampling settings suggested
Thanks again

Can you explain the unsampling to DSD. There are so many options for this, they are all set on native
Thanks

When you select "Custom Resampling", all file types are set to Native by default. You can then upsample or downsample each one individually and see what you prefer. An explanation can be found in Section 4.2 of the LUMIN Online Manual. **Please note that the online manual only shows one DSD upsampling option, but the T2 offers upsampling to either DSD 64 or DSD 128.

I run my T2 to a preamp, but the above would also apply if running it directly to a power amp. The downsampling options would come into play if running the T2 to an external DAC.

Hopefully, this explanation did more to help than to confuse....

Thanks for your comment
I am confused as my dealer installed and did not explain how to set up the options. I’m running a Anthem 1120 receiver and I use a Sim 330amp for 2 channel. It is set up with a high quality analog cable. Since I am using the Lumin Dac, at least I hope that’s how the dealer set it up does it make more sense to have audio analog resampling set to off. I noticed a big change in the bass from my subs when I changed it to custom

This is sure puzzling.

Did you change any other settings or cables (in the LUMIN App or on the Anthem) at the same time that you changed Re-sampling from "Off" to "Custom"? I don't understand how simply switching from Off to Custom would change the bass response like you explain, all other things being equal.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable about running the T2 to an AVR can help here.

None of this makes any sense. What I do know is that when you have a processor/receiver in the chain a whole bunch if strange things can happen. 2 channel and home theatre rigs really should be seperated, otherwise everything is a compromise.

I have my Lumin T2connected to a Classe Sigma pre-pro, as I also use my system for home theatre. However, my Classe allows me to bypass all digital processing when using the Lumin abd passes on the analog signal to my McIntosh 611 amps. I agree with you, it does not make any sense why bass would be better simply by turning custom on.

Only makes sense if the processor is doing something funny with the signal, switching to "custom", depending on what the processor sees and can do with that signal may be the reason why. My thoughts, eliminate the processor.

In any event, this is much too complicated for anyone to diagnose over a forum.

Thanks for all the responses. I haven’t changed anything except for changing setting to custom.
Eventually I would like to separate the Lumin from my home theater system. As of now I am using the Anthem 1120 as preamp and my Sim 330A amp to run Left and right speakers

Anthem 1120 as preamp

Please set Process Analog Input to No in Anthem unless you have to have room correction for music. In addition, you may turn down the Lumin volume, then turn up the Anthem volume. This may improve SQ, but is unrelated to the setting discussion above.

Thank you, I very much appreciate your response.
With process Analog input set to no I have just my left-right front speakers and no subwoofers. Are you saying it’s best not to use my two subwoofers?
I am now listening with Lumin volume about halfway instead of 100% and process audio on Anthem set to no. I have to listen now to see what I think.
Thanks again
Bob

The main point is to bypass the analog to digital conversion (ADC) in Anthem.

If your subwoofer has a high level input, it should be possible to use the subwoofer without Anthem Process Analog Input.

Peter, thank you, I am listening with your settings and this sounds correct to me. My left right speakers are Paradigm 85F’s and it turns out they generate enough bass where I find that the music sounds correct and musical
Thanks again

To get the most out of the Lumin does it make sense to upgrade to upgrade my Anthem 1120 receiver to an Anthem 90 AVM. I’m already using a Sim 330A amp with the 1120 for two channel music. I have a 9 speaker system for home theater so I can’t use a 2 channel preamp

Since the goal here is to bypass it, spending money on features that you're not going to use in this path is not going to be worthwhile for this particular use case. It might be relatively more worthwhile for other types of home theater usage though.

Peter, Yes that makes sense
Thank you
Bob
