Lumin D1 Vs. Aurender N100H Vs. Aurender X100L

Ok, so I too want to get past computer music and move on to a network music server. Need to keep a modest budget so for now can't go top of the line.

Not sure if any updates or new servers are on the horizon since some of these servers are more than a couple of years old. We all know that digital is like dog years so I want to be current as well.

Having said all that I'm interested in knowing if anyone has compared the Lumin D1, Aurender N100H, and Aurender X100L?

I would also like to here any comments from folks who might have other network servers that might be worth listening too as well.

Paul.......One of the decisions you need to make is whether you want to operate your network player with an external NAS or an internal hard drive. The Lumin D1 has no internal hard drive storage and will require being connected to an external USB hard drive or a NAS. The Lumin D1 also uses an external power supply. The Aurender N100H has internal hard drive storage (2TB or 4TB) plus a 120GB solid state drive cache for playback. In addition, the N100H can be used with a NAS if you wish. The Aurender N100H uses an internal linear power supply.

I own the Aurender N10 music server so I am biased toward the Aurender product line. None the less, Lumin also receives excellent reviews from owners and audio publications on the performance of their servers so I am sure either product will please you with its performance and sound. Both the Lumin D1 and the Aurender N100H use dedicated iPad apps that are intuitive and attractive. Both apps allow access to Tidal streaming service but the Aurender app has no provisions for using Roon as a control interface. The Aurender Conductor iPad app is everything I need so Roon doesn't appeal to me, but that is something else to consider. The Aurender X100L is essentially a N100H with up to 12TB hard drive available, although it uses a switch mode power supply rather than a linear power supply.

When I had my Lumin A1, I used the Melco N1A as a NAS. As it happens, the Melco works as a USB server too. The Series 2 now has a dedicated USB output. Works with the Lumin app (or other uPnP/OpenHome apps). Something to consider if you plan to keep your current DAC.

Recently, I heard the Lindemann musicbook 25 and was quite impressed with the sound. Its a streamer/network player/CD player with a built-in DAC and has an analog pre-amp using the Muses 72320 analog on-chip volume control (reportedly used on the Pass Labs XP-30 pre amp as well).

Hi Mike,

This is what I'm struggling with a bit. I really love my current Dac the Anedio D2 but it is a few years old. If the Dac in the Lumin D1 is better then I can use my current Dac as a headphone amp in my bedroom.

I think you already have a plan. Lumin D1, Sbooster and move the Anedio to the bedroom.
