I have to say there is not much info regarding these small Swiss family manufacturer of speakers. As there is not much to read and as they are like 20 min drive from my place i booked myself a tour of their premises. On top today was quite a relaxed day on work so I could give myself few hours of free time to drive and see/hear in person Jean Maurer creations.
More and more i think I'm quite surprised how many top end HiFi producers are located in the Lake Geneva region (Nagra, Soulution, CH Precision, Merging, Orpheus Labs, Brand cables, DarTzeel, Stenheim,...). I would assume it has something to do with the water and air quality around here
.
I had a chance of listening to their TOTL speaker JM370E which looks like it came from 70's or 80's. Craftsmanship and finish of the speakers is spotless and seeing them in person they look much better than on the pictures. Everything regarding this LS and other models they produce is in house produced by JM himself, his wife and son and I was really impressed by this fact. Entire production is clean and neat and you can somehow feel that they function like a good swiss watch.
Sound wise - they've been driven by their own tube amp (Lectron - they also produce their line of amps) and the sound was purely fantastic - huge soundstage, transparent, seamless blend of low/mid/high tones. Bass is precise and fast without any coloration. We've listened Jazz, vocals, instrumental, orchestra, rock and i did not have a feeling one single time that they've had a problem playing any of the tracks. Maybe the best term to describe them is overly musical speakers.
If you stumble upon them somewhere make sure you give them a listen!
For the ones who speak French here is the link to their website: http://www.jeanmaurerhifi.ch/ .
As pictures speak more than thousand words here are few of them:
