"THE ABC has questioned whether parents should read to their children before bedtime, claiming it could give your kids an “unfair advantage” over less fortunate children."

“Should parents snuggling up for one last story before lights out be even a little concerned about the advantage they might be conferring?”

“Evidence shows that the difference between those who get bedtime stories and those who don’t — the difference in their life chances — is bigger than the difference between those who get elite private schooling and those that don’t,”

I don't get the logic...other than to say, I will continue with the bedtime stories and to love my family!

That's ridiculous. Should parents bathe their children and change their clothes less often to equalize life with disadvantaged families, too? Maybe not feed them as often?

Me too! How absurd. Our routine is that we read the kids a book and they must read us a book each and every night. If we only have time for one, they read to us.

I'll just use a few of the words already used, ridiculous and absurd. And I will add bizarre. I will just say this all sounds like more crap by a so called philosopher.

What's next is it bad parenting to give your children a birthday party when some children around the world do get parties.

This reminds me of that saying when your setting at the table as a kid and your not eating your English peas and your parents tell you, "there are some children around the world that would love to have those English peas and we would always respond, well mom pack them up and send the peas to them :D.

SNORT! HILLARIOUS!!!! Ugh, off to the ER for some stitches, I just busted a gut. Where were you when I was a kid. If only I could have said that to my folks.

We had some cool parents, of course after you tell them to pack up those peas, you set at the table till you actually fall asleep in those peas or eat them which ever came first :D . To this day I still hate those little English peas.

Saw a story over the weekend where in some spanky private school they are actually segregating 3rd grade kids for a little time each week so they can have more racial identity or some such nonsense. Now not being racist is to have segregation? Who thinks this shit up? Bob Marly said it best "Until the color of a man's skin, is of no more significance, than the color of his eyes..."

How 'bout they identify as Americans, or humans, and stop all this diversity bullshit!

The article must just be another windup...meant to stoke a reaction.

i would pay it no mind...move on folks, nothing to see here!

To digress....Those living in the upper east side of NYC are paying professionals to do just that. The engagements form part of a rigorous consultation schedule of developmental activities with a range of designer specialists to coach the child to "excel" in the delusional world. They even pay professionals to schedule intensive playtime for their busy little babies.

The Chinese are becoming known to do the same in this part of the world also.

Competition nurturing in the crib. It's insane IMO.

In our house, it was liver and the starving people in China. I would have gladly sent my liver dinner to China. Back to the article-that was the dumbest thing i have ever read in my life and I thought someone was pulling our collective legs. The world needs more great families, not less. As I have gotten older, I have come to the conclusion there are more dysfunctional families than functional families. In fact, I think when I retire I might start up a line of dysfunctional greeting cards. Not everyone had the greatest mother, father, brother(s), or sister(s). This would help everyone who was looking for the least amount of mush and nonsense when picking out cards for special occasions that you feel compelled to send a card for.

Reminds me of a joke... "I had a little Freudian slip the other day at Thanksgiving dinner. I meant to ask my mother 'please pass the butter' instead I said 'why did you mess up my life'.

I was going to say..... That's not quite the way I remember that joke! ;)

Not quite the same joke without the expletives!

Bob, you're a great member. But we have rules that we all have to abide by.

Also, we are always wanting to attract some women to join our forum, that kind of language is just out of line.

I can assure you that I would never say anything of the sort in front of your wife, or any other women.

I agree completely with the article. This is the exact reason why I frequent hookers, don't want my wife having the unfair advantage that fidelity would provide.

if you are serious about wanting to attract women to AS, you might take a look at some of the Avatars used by members. I think some women would find them more offensive/degrading than Bob's language. Seriously.
