I have the itch for a new laptop computer. My 16.4" Sony Vaio with a Quad Core Intel i7 1.72GHz processor, 16GB of RAM, NVIDIA GT 425M graphics processor with 1GB dedicated RAM, and a 500GB 7200 RPM hard drive has served me well for 7 years. It still operates perfectly. It is running the most recent update of Windows 10 flawlessly. In fact, there isn't any real reason to replace the Sony Vaio except my desire to bring home a new laptop with all the current technology, features, bells and whistles.

My attention has centered on the new HP Spectre X360 15t laptop. It features the 2 in 1 screen that allows it to be swung 360 degrees to become a large touch screen tablet that is pen enabled. The 15.6 inch 4K touch screen is reinforced with Gorilla Glass. The display is ultra sharp with a tremendous color pallet. The 8th gen Intel Quad Core processor runs at 3.1 GHz, up to 4.1 GHz. The Spectre X360 has dedicated Radeon RX Vega M Graphics (4GB dedicated memory), 16GB of DDR4-2400 SDRAM, and a 1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 Solid State Drive. The Spectre also has IR scanning of the iris and fingerprint security. This is a serious laptop with plenty of performance to support whatever software demands I require now and in the future. It is also a beauty to look at, and at 4.6 lbs it is nearly 2 lbs. lighter than my Sony Vaio.

So, do I need this new HP Spectre X360 15t laptop? No. Do I want the new HP Spectre X360 15t laptop? Absolutely! I am seriously procrastinating ordering one direct from HP's website. I am trying to decide if it is worth letting go of $1800.00 with Microsoft Office Home and Business pre-installed when my Sony Vaio still serves my needs. I have the devil on one shoulder and the angel on the other.

Dan

If you haven't might want to take a look at Alienware, the high end division of Dell.

Re: HP SpectreX350 15t Laptop

Jack.......I have had hands on experience with the most recent top of the line Alienware laptop. A good friend owns one and it is a serious computer and gaming machine. It is quite an amazing laptop computer but too big and too heavy for me. The HP Spectre X360 15t I am interested in runs $1579.00 plus the software I want loaded. That is considerably less money than the top of the line Alienware machine. I think the Spectre will suite my needs perfectly, that is if I spring for it.

Dan, you are most likely using this laptop as a multi purpose machine or is it audio only just wondering.

watch those awesome deals on black Friday.

If I were going to get an all in one workhorse laptop that would be the one. It’s an excellent machine.

The tiny laptops, I recently purchase the tiny Spectre, are ok but too slow, scaling windows sucks and when real power needed fan noise unacceptable.

I think you will love the machine. One of the better ones in its size and capabilities.

HP also makes their workstation laptops which quite frankly isn’t worth the price difference compared to yours and yours gives some added benefit.

Enjoy

Chris.......Yes, the HP Spectre X360 15t would be used as a multi-purpose machine that would also include music files. I no longer play music from a laptop but it serves as a way to transport music file when I travel, both for personal listening and sharing. Primarily the laptop will be used for record keeping, research on various things of interest, some video editing, photo editing and storage, and web surfing. Right now the biggest issue is my Sony Vaio laptop still does all of this just fine, making it difficult to justify the purchase despite my desire to own the new Spectre. I'll probably fold like a house of cards as soon as I figure out what to do with my Vaio.

Priaptor.......Thank you for your comments. I had a chance to play with the HP Spectre X360 13 last year at Best Buy. Although it was impressive, it doesn't compare to the 2018 model of the HP Spectre X360 15t. HP made some nice changes in the 2018 model that I prefer, one being going back to a barrel plug for charging the laptop versus the type C USB charging configuration on the 2017 version. I also prefer the inclusion of the numeric keypad. I think this new HP Spectre X360 15t would keep me happy for quite a few years.

Sorry I didn't get back to ya, I only have 3 more yards of mulch to put out. Go ahead and fold, you know you want a new high power laptop.

Chris.......I could not stop thinking about the HP Spectre X360 15t. I'd wake up thinking about it and go to sleep thinking about it, so I decided it must be time to place my order. It ships on November 23rd, so I should have it a few days after that. I may have it before then since HP is known for shipping early.

The HP Spectre X360 15t came to a grand total of $1,859.97 configured as follows:

Intel Core i7-8705G (3.1 GHz, up to 4.1 GHz, 8MB cache, 4 cores)
Radeon RX Vega M Graphics (4GB dedicated memory)
16 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (2x8GB)
15.6" diagonal 4K IPS micro-edge BrightView WLED-backlit touch screen with Corning Gorilla Glass (3840 x 2160)
1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD
HP TrueVision FHD IR Camera with Dual array digital microphone (dark ash silver)(for i7-8705G)
Full-size island-style backlit keyboard with integrated numeric keypad (Dark Ash Silver)
Intel 802.11b/g/n/ac (2x2) Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 Combo
HP Pen (dark ash silver)
6-cell, 84 Wh Lithium-ion Battery
Windows 10 Home 64
Microsoft Office Home and Business with Outlook
Adobe Photoshop Elements 15
Adobe Premiere Elements 15
McAfee Security Software Trial

Once the Spectre laptop is here the fun begins with migrating applications, files, and configuration settings. I have done this many times, and although it is a challenge, not to mention time consuming, I enjoy getting a new computer setup just the way I like it. I will delete the McAfee security software. I use Norton 360 on all my machines.

I am excited about this new computer arriving. It has been 7 years since I purchased the Sony Vaio laptop. I expect this faster processor and solid state drive will make the HP Spectre considerably faster, and I expect the 4K display to be excellent. Having the new laptop come in 2 lbs. lighter than the Vaio will be welcomed when I travel.
