After listening to the D’Agostino Momentum stereo amplifier for a couple of weeks, with a variety of systems, I am convinced that this thing really does have some pixie dust of something from Area 51 under the hood.

It sounds like a class A amp, but it isn’t – it only uses 3 watts of power in standby mode!

Even connected to my Sonus faber Guarneri Evolution speakers, with a sensitivity of 86db, it’s tough to get those power meters (that look like a vintage watch dial) to budge much. *Even cranking Slayer doesn’t seem to make them move much. *Maybe that green light from inside is from Kryptonite.

I’m glad I’m not Superman.

But this amplifier is something special. *Watch for our review, on the horizon.

I can not wait for the review. I love my amp. A LOT :exciting:

As good as his amps are, the pre-amp may even be better, or at least when it is connected to the Momentum amps.

sweet looking amp. Looking forward to hearing your full review impressions.

A long time ago there was a Stereophile issue (June 1996 mag) with an elaborate article on Fabio and his main sound system. WoW! The guy loves good sound for sure! There was a picture of him holding a stack of Krell components way above his head with his arms up and fully extended.
His speakers were electrostatic ones (huge Martin Logan Statement), and they were in his main room (huge) with marble floor (gorgeous shades of jade/emerald greens).
Fabio has also his own recording studio, and he's a true audiophile, of course.

* If you look at Krell's history from the very beginning, Dan's designs (in & out), his team of people, the way they build and the parts used in Krell components, and during all those years, and up till now; it is the beautiful story of a solid and successful company, with the best team of people behind, and the best leader. They produce some of the very best audio equipment (amps, preamps, CD players, SSPs, speakers, ...) in the world!
Power, delicacy, beauty, build (in & out), performance, the full package is Krell's trademark.

If you are a 'Krell' man it means that you are smart at recognizing the high class of ultra hi-fi.

Jeff,

I think you (and many others before you) are confusing standby power with idle (switched on, no signal) power - only this last one can be correlated to class A operation in amplifiers. As far as I see someone wrote it once and the mistake is spreading on the net. Idle power of the Momentum stereo is 99W according to Paul Miller measurements in HFN. It shows that the amplifier operates in class AB.

Older Krell amplifiers of the EVO series had high standby power - and electricity power bills would show it! Also ecologists disliked it. I think it is why D'Agostino refers to a standby power - otherwise a ridiculous specification for a normal power amplifier.

Are you using the matching preamplifier in the review?

If you don't already know just go visit this LINK the years 1980 to 1990 = Deel 1 - 1990 to 2000 = Deel 2 - 2000 to 2010 = Deel 3 - and it keeps going on and on yes in MY book Dan D'agostino is a genious.
