I ordered the BorderPatrol SE dac with rca spdif input to mainly go with my modified Sonos. It’s awesome. I should have ordered the one with usb as well. I didn’t expect it to be so good.

It’s “only” 24/96 and no dsd or mqa but it’s has a wonderful sweetness to it.

I've always heard very positive things about Border Patrol DACs. Looks like the SE version has a better power supply and caps, but still very reasonably priced.

Already it’s wonderful after only a couple of hours. Can’t wait until after work to fire everything up again.
 
It's amazing, I absolutely love it. I probably should have added the USB input. It's going nowhere.

Have you got the Sonos controlling the NUC and then from the Sonos to the Border Patrol? No other sources other than the Sony's analog outputs to the Luxman?
 
Right now I am just using the Wyred 4 Sound modified Sonos into the BP SE dac via RCA spdif. The Sonos upsamples to 24/96 which is the max sample rate of the BP SE dac.

Absolutely still love mine. Yes. It’s wonderful. I am sure you will enjoy yours too. I should have ordered mine with the usb input as well, it would have been more versatile but no regrets at all.
 
Joe, glad you are still loving it! Gary told me today you can send it back to have the USB input installed, so you may wish to consider doing so.
 
Ah, I was wondering about that. I figured it’s probably not too big a deal. Thank you for asking. I’m hearing rumors of a higher level dac from him. I’m very intrigued.
 
Jock, you were absolutely right about the SE dac. I can’t wait for you to get the new one.
 
He listed a “DAC 1” on his price sheet at the show for just over $9,000. He told me that is the model he only makes to order.
