Ayre M-XR 20 Review

Jock, I haven't heard the MXR Twenty yet, but I recently purchased a used Ayre K5xe-MP preamp on Agon. At 2K used, has to be one of the best audio buys I have ever made. Great sound. I'm a fan of Ayre!

Ha! The guy said he had like 3 offers that very first day. I guess you were one if them? Sorry! I'm sure another will pop up. It's a great sounding pre, esp for the money! Would consider other Ayre gear just from the strength of this one alone.

That's by far the lowest price I'd seen for that preamp. You scored a great little win there. Happy for you and jealous of ya. ;)

Another fan of Ayre here. I have 2 pair of MXR's, both purchased used. One pair for my main system in the country, the other in my more modest city system, with a K5xe-MP preamp (purchased on Audiogon for $2100.) The main system has a KXR pre, also purchased used and recently upgraded to the Twenty status. I will probably soon send at least one MXR pair back to Ayre for the Twenty upgrade. Very pleased with the gear and the company. Superb customer service.

Hi Tom, i take it the MXR have the oomph to drive the big sound labs...have you tried a VX-R?
