Well, I've had my Avantgarde Zero XD's for almost a month now. When I first got them, I could tell they needed some break in. The bass was ripe and the tweeter hot - not something I had heard at all at the Avantgarde distributors or at RMAF. I turned them on every morning and let them play until bedtime. After about a week, the speakers did a remarkable transformation. Bass tightened up ten fold and became very balanced with the midrange/tweeter. The tweeter became incredibly sweet and smooth. The midrange also filled out nicely.
I've had several people in to listen and the comments have ranged from "the bass is excellent" to "I can't believe how sweet these sound" to "these are so balanced, I don't hear any flaws."
By the time Mark (MDP) and Jim Smith arrived, they were hitting their stride. I believe both were really impressed. The Avantgarde Zero XD's play big and as loud as you could ever want. They play clean and very sweetly musical with deep deep bass.
I would put the Avantgarde Zero XD's in the category of "one of the best products in high end - regardless of price." To think that you get speakers that play this well, top to bottom with this kind of musicality and effortlessness, with three amps per speaker (Class A for tweeter, Class A for midrange and Class D for bass), preamp/analog inputs (for phono stage), a 24/192 PCM DAC and a multitude of other inputs for other sources (CD, etc.), a sexy remote and no need to buy expensive IC or speaker cables either for under $22,000 retail is incredible.
