I have not yet had the chance to listen to the Trio's yet, but I am really impressed by the Duo XD when they are correctly set up...

Had a quick listen today. It was only day 2, so not broken in at all. Plus, they were not in their final position yet.
Still, with the front of the basshorns about 6 foot from the rear wall and the listening position about 9 foot away, the Trios sounded very open with no sense that the sound was emanating from the speakers.
They were (not) surprisingly, more coherent than the DUO XD and UNO XD in the same room with the same/similar equipment (Ongaku/Audionote).
What was uncommon for horns was the sheer sense of depth, where the soundstage / solo singer appeared to be way back where the basshorns were placed. So, you were drawn into the music rather than the sound being in your face / forward.
It does seem to make a case for subs and main speakers to be separately positioned for the ideal bass / imaging / tonality as well as for subs enhancing the sense of space and depth.

On a working visit to Singapore, I had a quick listen also and totally agree. I'm a big fan of horns done right & the sense of space, purity and just overall rightness of the Trio speakers with bass horn were at another level. The system disappeared and revealed the music to an extant that is often over-hyped in written reviews but in this case made a believer of me. I'm not usually a big 'sound stage guy', preferring tonal correctness and dynamic response to give me the sensation of live music but this was holodeck-like and added tremendously to the illusion of real performers/instruments in real space.
Big shout out to the guys for the warm welcome and willingness to demonstrate the system for me. Apparently Avantgarde are doing the calibration of the bass horns this week so looking forward to dropping in again next week when I'm back in town for another listen.
PS I'm not a forum lurker or poster but felt this system was of such a level that it deserved special mention. Also when I was there the Audio Note Level 3 components including Conquest 300B amps were doing a superb job driving the speakers.

Last week the Avantgarde Duo Mezzo XD arrived and even though I like the Duo XD a lot, this was a step up in performance!

We have tried a lot of different electronics - Leema power amps, EAR, Lamm. Cables the same thing - the new Shunyata Delta SP, Jorma cables, TiGlow...
So far is my favourite the Lamm with Shunyata...
