Aurender sound signature

I've been listening to my new (used) Aurender N100h for about a month now and absolutely love it. I'm starting to become more aware of its sound signature and want to know if others have noticed this as well. It sounds like the upper bass is a tad soft or rolled off. I don't recall reading anything about this in reviews, so I'm wondering if this is just my system synergy/room or if it is part of its house sound. I recall having an amp that had an upper bass lift, that I eventually sold because of that, so now I've got the opposite issue.

Im curious if the N10 does a better job with this. I've heard that it sounds better in every way than the N100.

Thanks,
Ernie

It does. Right out of the box brand new, it beat my N100H....but so it should.

Thanks Mike.

Anybody else experiencing the soft/rolled off upper bass?

Hi Ernie!

I haven't noticed any bass anomalies with the Aurenders, N100H or N10... If I had to point at something, I think the midrange and high frequencies are smoother, but in a good way (not rolled off, so no loss of information there).

I just took an N100H to a friend's place the other day, and paired with my DAC of choice (MSB Analog DAC), it was indeed very smooth, very analog-like.

So if I had to describe the Aurender "house sound" in one word would be "smooth", but definitely not "rolled off"!

Oh, may I ask what cables you're using on your Aurender (USB and power cord)? I've been using an inexpensive iFI cable (with split power/signal connectors), but once we got the Kubala-Sosna USB reference cable, the performance took a jump there...

cheers,
alex

Thanks gents! I'll look else where for the source of my upper bass lul.

Fyi, I tried my Regen on the Aurender and didn't notice any improvement. I view this as verification that it already has minimal jitter.

I'm traveling to Portland next week and plan to stop by Pearl Audio to demo the N10 so I can hear for myself how it compares to the N100H.

Hi Ern dog,

I have W20 already for 3 years and still very happy. I join my recommendations to those of Asiufy- try good usb or AES/EBU cable and Power Cord. For usb I have Entreq Konstantin with Minimus and Jcat ref custom version . My AES cable is Fadel Art Ref II, pc is Acrolink 7500.
Different cables can change your idea of Aurender' s sound signature.
I had the same experience with Regen like yours- it did not improve the sound in my setup.
best
Mariusz
