Now that I have the room treatment in progress, it’s abouttime to set up my Denon DP47f. I was going to get a Ortofon 2M Bronze cart forit, but I recently discovered that the turntable is worth half of what I paidabout 1.5 years ago ($400) and you don’t stick racing wheels on a Yugo.
The table is near new condition, the only thing wrong withit is the cartridge. The other issue is that the phono stage on my AVR is crap.I have a TCC 705LC Phono preamp I was using to digitize my vinyl records withthat I will use in my main system where I have the Denon TT. I have a ShureM97xE cart with about 6 hours on it currently mounted on my Pioneer PL530. Iwill take it and put it on the Denon and see how it goes provided I can evenset the thing up. This will allow me to save up for possibly a better phonopreamp. If the Shure doesn’t sound good then I may try an AT95E (I have one onmy Pioneer PL510 and it’s great for that table). Failing all that I might go toan Ortofon 2M Blue.
This leads me to another somewhat related question: I’d liketo try a fine line or similar needle over the ellipticals I have now. Are thereany MM carts with fine line or similar needles in the $200 or less range? ~Eric

Just that one huh? It's on my list now. The thing with AT though is that it's hit or miss as far as build quality I've heard and that the market is flooded with counterfeits. I have an AT95E on my Pioneer PL510 that I like, but I feel I got lucky with it. I also feel that while I think it has a nice balanced sound, it would be even better if it had a fine line stylus instead of an elliptical. I'm also wondering about one of those Ortofon Super OM10 jobs.
