Accuphase in da house.....

Nice stuff, Accuphase.

I had their A-36 Class A power amp for a while, but lovely and flexible as it was (switchable gain, twin speaker facility, etc) it proved just a little too "polite" for my liking. It was reluctantly sold after a year or so, as were other great amps that I bought or borrowed in my search for the ideal SS amp to replace my earlier SETs.

I'm definitely interested in comparing and contrasting to the Luxman's I've owned.

I agree with what you are saying that it sometimes has a reputation as being a bit too polite. I'll be curious how it sounds once broken it.

I'm at a different phase now than I was 10 year ago. I think if I had to choose too exciting or a bit too polite, I'd pick the too polite.

But we'll see how this sounds. I could have done the E-800 Class A version but I just have not been a fan of the pure class A solid states I've tried over the years. To me those amps always sound lethargic.

Hopefully this will be the best of the Class A sound with the drive of a class a/b design.

My A-36 was well broken in as I bought it as a nearly-new used example. Perhaps its "politeness" could be put down to its pure Class A design, but it was so much better than the other Class As I tried. I chose this amp because I was expecting Class A to win me over and I don't need much power as my speakers were well over 100 dB.

I home demo'd a dozen ss amps, but in the end it was a toss-up between an excellent Class AB from GamuT and a Class D that I eventually chose, after establishing that there are lots of cheap, but not very good D amps on the market. I went for the top technology but built under license from Purifi using better components and well-matched associated parts.

I'm sure your AB Accuphase will sound great. Have fun

Thanks.

I'm looking forward to trying it on a couple of different speakers and seeing how it performs.

I will say the fit and finish, resistance and feel of the knobs and buttons, etc. are incredible. I'm not going to say it's the "the best" but I am going to say it puts many other comparably - and more expensive priced gear I've tried to shame.

The term that keeps coming to mind is that is it like an expensive piece of jewelry.
