Anyone got any knowledge on these power amps from Accuphase. Want to buy one and they are almost head to head on monies. The question is do I go for Class A or Class A/B? Can't get to hear them and have no experience with Accuphase Power amps but heard very good things about both components. Listen to most classical, perhaps a little jazz.

Want to move on from my Bryston 4BSST2, otherwise my system is:-
Accuphase DP-510
Accuphase C2420
Spendor SP100R2
Isotek Titan (clean supply)
Audience AU24 speaker cable
XLO LE-2 and Signature 3.1

Welcome Simon

I have had both in my shop and feel like for Classical the P4200 would work a little better. It's a little faster sounding, bigger soundstage and tighter bass. Keep in mind these are only marginal differences and of course only my opinion based on my experience with the brand.

Really appreciate you sharing your experience and knowledge.
I see you are a Bryston dealer too. Would you say I can expect a bit more finesse, refinement and soundstaging with the P4200 or is solid-state, solid-state so to speak and orchestral strings can still sound a little steely?
Evidently, from bits I've picked up on the net, the P4200 was truly stunning at the 2014 CES.
Being the baby of the range are there limitations, it doesn't appear that way?

Hello Simon, Welcome. I have been looking at Accuphase for a while. How do you like your 2420? Big differences in pricing with their preamps. Also, All the othe A/B amps are ONE series except the new 4200. I feel they will roll out replacements for the 6100 etc. ie 6200. Thoughts?

Like yourself, I believe they will upgrade to new versions over the next 12 months. I have to say I'm pretty astonished at the stunning performance of the C2420. It sounds like it's across the board too. Considerably more resolution than I've ever heard before, more rich textural quality yet without any sense of coloration. Very real concert like natural sound-staging while dynamic contrasts are almost something new from discs I thought I knew very well. I'm at over 500hours now but it did take a long time to get to this level, in excess of 250!
The cost of the C2420 was a little hard to take but I couldn't get to hear the entry level so the risk was too great. I suspect the recent upgrade on that could make it very good sound for bucks and if a listen is logistically possible I would do that...............could surprise.
Hope this helps.

Yes the Accuphase will have better resolution, better dynamic , tighter punchier bass, more detail and definitely a more refined sound. As good as Bryston amps are the Accuphase is just on a different level. Don't worry about power that little Accuphase will drive just about any speaker made. Keep in mind the flexibility of it also. You can add a second 4200 and have two mono amps with just a flip of a switch.again just my opinion.
