Don't see the meters going over ¼

Have more juice than the REF150

Comes with a tube cage but I take that away, I want to see my new K150 glowing

Very similar sound like the REF150 but only have a couple of hours yet and my REF150 is over 1k hours
Have more deep end bass, that is for sure.

Quality of craftsmanship beyond my expectations but don't like the speakers terminals

The tube hour meter is in the back for easy read, nice

Have a switch in the back to put the GS150 to sleep when is not receiving any signal for a while. You can defeat it and it saids
that is not in the path of the audio line.

I think is going to be a hit for ARC

Tomorrow I will open the box of the GSpre

    more goodies , !!!!!!

Nelson what are the list prices for the GSPre and GS150? Also do you know the price of the GSi75? Audio Beat had reported:

    GSpre: $18K
    GS150: $25K
    GSi75: $19K

but that was back when these were still in pre-launch stage so not sure if the prices changed or not. Thx

    Re: Galileo

There is always that possibility Cyril.

I first listened to the Alexias with the Ref 150. They sounded quite good with it until my dealer swapped it for the DAG amp. There was a significant improvement in the soundstage, depth and bottom end. Mark (MPD) was with me during this audition.

On this day, I fundamentally made a decision to stop looking for a new amp to drive my then Salon 2s and get the Alexias with the DAG amp.

Drives them easily, I'm a little mad
because I'm using less than ¼ of the
Output and want to see the needles
Move back and forth in long length
But the Alexias are very efficient.

That's why the REF75 is a good match
    for the Alexias.

    Nelson,

Would like to get your perspective on the GS and the Stereo DAG in the future with the Alexias. I'm sure both would be fantastic but different.

    Thx!

What if you roll KT150s in REF150?

Recently I purchased Ref250 after my source confirmed it's ok to roll KT150. Huge SQ improvement plus tube last 4,000+ hours. I have 220 hrs on the amps so no tube rolling until 600 hrs. Already have 70's 6h30-dr and Tung-Sol NOS 6550 warming up in the bullpen.

Albert Porter has 600+ hrs on his Ref250 and he's rolling KT150 next week. Tubes in transit and scheduled to arrive next Tue. We have different sources confirming it's ok to roll KT150.

From what I understand, yes, you bias them the same. As for the comment about not seeing the meters move much on the Ref 75, that is quite true if you are using a preamp like the Ref 5SE which only has 6dB of gain. It seems no matter how loud I turn up the volume, the Ref 75 power meters are always between .5 watts and 5 watts. I just received an Atma-Sphere MP-3 preamp for review and it has 15dB of gain. Now all of a sudden I see the power meters on the Ref 75 jump like crazy.

VAC is transformer coupling while ARC is capacitor coupling so wondering have you compare both pre driving ARC amps and what are your impressions?

With REF10 into REF75, at 85-90 db levels I see meters move to maybe half way up the dial on peaks, but I usually turn off the lamps so I'm not distracted staring at them.

My KT150's arrived but were not a matched quad as TubeDepot promised, and one rattled a LOT, another rattled a little, and two seemed quiet. To their credit, TubeDepot asked that I send all four back for replacement. Those tubes are monsters, like an old c9 christmas bulb jacked up on steroids. Installed in the socket, the tube was right at the height of the cover which I am not using with the amp in the rack. With cover on, I would guess clearance only a mm or so.

Curious as to why you didn't buy your KT-150s from Upscale Audio since they do a good job of burning tubes in and matching them and the price is the same.

Different strokes. I've always had good luck with Tube Depot. On the other hand I've contacted UA a couple of times and never heard back from them. Guess they don't need my business.

Sounds like your luck ran out with your latest purchase. When I want to buy tubes from Uncle Kevin, I call Upscale Audio and start every conversation with "I want to place an order." It works every time. You may or may not have any idea how many tire kickers call up audio stores just to pick their brains and not spend any money with them. Some people go to their stores so they can hear something they want to purchase over the internet. Having a brick and mortar store is a tough gig to pull off now days.

    Nelson,

I have one I am breaking in and preliminarily I share your opinion. This is an extraordinary amp. I have 35 hours on it have done just a little listening but am pretty impressed. I am doing a REAL shootout tomorrow, but this amp is truly excellent and likely going to stay in the system

I am assuming you are referring to the GS150 as being "the best unit from ARC". With just 50 hours on the unit I am listening to I am tending to agree with you. This is truly a very special product.

At least I'm not getting crazy alone.
I have the bass punch of the transistor now
And the delicacy of warm voice of the tubes

    Well done ARC
